Break in and now Jeep doesn’t recognize fob

Hey everyone.

Yesterday at some time my gladiator sport was broken into and the glass was smashed and the glovebox dismantled. (See pictures below) the glovebox wasn’t ripped out but the side arm taken off and everything. They took absolutely nothing including the petty cash in the center console.

I don’t keep anything in there outside my Heigh10. Which shows no signs of tampering.

Now the main issue:

When I go to start the car, it keeps saying use the fob to start. Keep trying and tried the second key and still nothing. Replaced the fob batteries and not working.

Could they have reprogrammed my keys? My fob has no buttons on it like unlock as the truck is all manual.

Have insurance evaluate and fix… typically they program new fobs to the vehicle using the canbus access behind the glovebox.

If pushing the start button with the end of the FOB doesn't work, it will have to go to the dealer to be repaired as part of the insurance claim.

They probably broke in and started reprogramming it before realizing it was all manual and something that wouldn't be easy to move.

Sounds like they attempted to code new fobs and "nulled" your current fobs out

Looking at the picture, his truck has an automatic transmission.
I think he was referring to the windows & door locks being manual.

At any rate, I think I would figure out a way to move it & keep it parked in the garage until it gets fixed.
Whoever was trying to steal it may have just been scared off by something while in the process.
They may be back to finish the job!

If you can't find a safe place to keep your JT. Pull the fuel pump rely.

Report it to the police. Take lots of pictures. Clear all your stuff out of it. Call the insurance company to start a claim and send a tow truck to come pick it up. Leave it where you found it. Maybe they will come back for it before the tow truck shows up.

This exactly. There's at least a couple of other cases of this exact thing already posted here.

I'm sorry that this happened to you. I think it's time for us to kill the canbus modules. My only concern is how the modules would behaves by cutting and then restoring power to them on startup.
