What do you do for a living that you can justify a $1,400 heater? I just use a Mr buddy for my ground tent.

Entirely not necessary at all. But just looking into options. Life is short and I've been having problems. So would like to have fun while I still am able. If you really want to know the truth. But thanks for digging into my medical problems and low life expectancy.

Not sure if I want to trust a mr buddy just because I move around a bunch at night.

And by that same token, what do people do for a living that they can justify a 850,000 dollar house with 3,500/mo mortgages???????

Jeez buddy, sorry if that’s the case. Godspeed to you.

Yeah the Mr Buddy I use is in a huge tent. Although they do have the tip shut off sensors.

I don’t know to be honest I can barely justify owning my Jeep + my mortgage that is no where near that. Didn’t mean to come off as rude, really, sometimes I just wonder how people are able to put so much into things when eggs are $10 for a dozen.

It's all good I get it, I've had plenty of questions like that before as well. I've saved a lot in the last many years and lived frugally out of a travel trailer until finally being able to settle down. Bought a 100 yr old house with a mortgage, fortunately, half the cost of most peoples rent - so lucky in that regard I guess, but it needs a ton of work. So with some issues I have I am putting all house work on hold to get out camping while I still have time for that - not sure how long that will be but don't want to miss out before its too late.

its mind boggling though about house prices. mine is super cheap compared to others. I dont get how people can even afford a 300K house. Well above my comfort zone.

I didnt know the buddy heaters had a tipper protection. Do they last a while on the 1 lb propane tanks?

That gas heater in the link is quite a bit more $ than those popular Chinese diesel heaters, I have a Chinese one myself. If I was going to drop that kind of serious coin I'd get a Propex propane heater. I'm already carrying propane and Propex has been around for quite some time with a good reputation and spare parts availability. As far as Mr Buddy is concerned there is a "Little Buddy" (about 100 bucks) indoor heater available, I have one of those also, in my camper Little Buddy would put a lot of moisture in the air, that is how I ended up with the Chinese heater, other than the moisture the Buddy was adequate. I ran the Little Buddy straight off a 5 gal, 20 lb tank and didn't mess with the 1 lb disposable bottles. There's a couple ways to adapt it to the larger tank, you can Google it or YouTube it if it's something you might be interested in. In a small camper the dry heat with the combustion outside is sweet, instead of adding moisture to the air it helps keep the condensation down.

We bought our home last year before interest rates went crazy, we spent more than I wanted and the payment is higher than I thought I’d be comfortable with but here we are a year and some change later. That actually really puts things into perspective, we don’t have kids and I have a decent life insurance policy. That’s how I’ll justify my JT from now on because absolutely, life is too short to drive boring cars.

I set my Mr Buddy to the low setting usually and the tank will last about 6 hours. It’s only gets into the high 20’s where I go so with the heater to get us situated and good sleeping bags we are good through the night. Since we are in an open air tent I don’t worry about carbon monoxide either.

Yeah putting moisture into the air is not what I want to do - which is why I have stayed away from mr buddy thus far... the china compnies dont yet make a gas version and honestly even if I got a diesel one not sure I'd want a china made one anyway. But I did try and look up propex a month or so ago. I didnt find anything good but did find a bunch of talk that they went out of business? I saw a lot of their heaters on various marine sites being sold for just a couple hundred bucks. I might look into them again but I thought they took up a lot of real estate. The biggest concern with putting moisture into the air for me is it gets cold here. I wouldn't want to camp when its below 20 degrees, and at night we often see temps in the negatives.. So I saw a YouTube a while ago that did something similar and their tent fabric literally froze because the moisture froze up. that seems like a bad situation. But maybe temps not as cold, like just below freezing, it would be ok.

Yeah I got mine in the height of it. So the price was honestly twice what it should be. 5 years ago this house on 1/3 acre, and the 1/3 acre lot next to it (rented out now) was up for sale together for 98K. But in covid times I had to pay 165K. But a lot of that has to do with being in such a small small town (maybe 800 people?) so there's really not many houses up for sale anyway. Covid made an impact of course, but more of the impact was just simply few homes for sale. I told myself I wouldn't spend more than 150K because I didn't want a payment over 1,000/mo - and I'm still not. A few blocks down there was a 110 yr old house, still on the original wood block foundation, that actually sold for 250K. INSANE!!! It had a shifting foundation too... I had to do a new roof, electrical, plumbing and entire sewer right away on mine, the inside looks trashed because it was a rental for many years, but everything is structurally ok. It's a cute little house and it won't' be super expensive to rebuild if I have enough time for that. and it's basically right on the river. So with a crazy low interest rate, I did ok. I can't imagine my interest rate getting any lower, so really it's simply the cost of the house that was ridiculous. I actually waled away at one point because the seller was being stupid, but they begged me to come back lol. Couple of old historic apple trees and a huge 40 inch Douglas-fir in the back yard with decent views. Being single, no kids, and no pets (do yard squirrels count?) I have to be careful with budgets, but can spend money on what I want since it's just me. Woulda been nice to have a family, but Uncle Sam made sure I'm too broken for that now lol. The hope here is to get the JT all ready for adventures and join some vets groups to help others get through things I've had to deal with already. That and exploring is my #1 source of enjoyment now - is how I justify it.

I have a diesel version. IT IS GREAT. Does get a little too warm blowing directly into the tent but honestly that is million times better than putting on frozen jeans in the morning.

I, like yourself, didn't want to deal with dual fuel setups and looked for an alternative. But I weighed up the pros and cons and the diesel came out onto vs any other system.

I can do 2 nights on the internal tank, I have done 3 nights before with using it less each night. I don't do longer trip than that without going near a gas station anyway. Takes me 2 minutes longer at the pump to fill up diesel and gasoline.

Diesel stinks and is a pain in the ass if you spill it, so don't do that haha. But it's much safer to have around you too

yeah the diesel setups have been around for quite a long time. I am
wondering about the gas version since I can plumb it directly from the tank - so that should be plenty safe I would think. That was my first concern though, safety of the volatile gasoline.

I have a buddy heater but condensation is terrible in our rtt. There's really nothing wrong with a chinese diesel heater except having to carry extra diesel. My previous unit was the Vevor which was a pain in the behind to pack and carry. My new unit, the HC-A01 is compact and everything fits inside the case. I use about 1/3 of the 5L tank a night on low setting in 28* F so not bad at all.
The Webasto is nice but the you have to plumb it up and $$$$. Here's a link to the HC-A01.

Says the guy in the Eco JTR ? Remember, it's not just how much you're paid but also how much your living expenses are, ie location.

I was looking at that unit the other day actually for a coworker.

But Im simply not at all interested in diesel. I know they are the norm and have huge positives. But its not what aim looking for Tbh and I really dont want to deal with another fuel source and a separate tank. The idea is to plumb into my gas tank similar to how The Epic Family Roadtrip did.

That would be the ideal setup. But I'm too cheap for that lol. This is my first Jeep and dove head first into it lol. Got an alucab canopy and rtt without looking into other options. If I were to do it over, I'd get the AT Habitat with a Dickinson P9000 furnace and call it a done. But now we're looking at a small offroad trailer to throw the rtt on top. Like you said, life too short, gotta start living a little. Been working 6-7 days a week for the last 20 years and turning the big 50 this month.
