Looking to upgrade wheels and tires on my gladiator. I know the wheels I want but have two size options and can’t decide which to run with. 18x9 0mm or 17x8.5 -10mm. Tires will be 35x12.5

17 gives you a tad more more sidewall, but many trucks run 18, so lack of tires shouldn’t be a concern - it’s all preference.

Every really wonder why the Factory uses 17" on all but the Sahara models and on a very limited model of Gladiators? IMO that is the answer to your question.. 17s.

This!

If you drive 99% on pavement then 18” wheels will give you less sidewall and better handling. If you off-road then 17’s are the answer.

You might want to push to a more positive offset to keep the rubbing to a minimum. I went 17x8.5 +18mm with 35x12.50 MT, with no lift and no rubbing.

If you go off road you want more tire and less wheel. This gives you a better ride, offers better traction when aired down, and reduces the risk of punctures.

If you want to show off the wheel design and stay on tame or paved roads, go with the 18". If you want to go off road, go with the 17".

I only tolerate a 17" to fit over the calipers, our more aggressive off roader has 15" wheels for maximum sidewall.

I think maybe you have that backwards? With all due respect, correct me if I'm wrong correcting you.

Positive offset moves the mounting surface outwards towards the face of the wheel, thus tucking more of the wheel under the fenders. How would that decrease rubbing potential?

A negative offset moves the mounting surface inwards which pushes more of the wheel/tire outwards, away from fenders, liners, and suspension parts.....similar to a wheel spacer.

Our stock modern Jeep wheels have a ridiculous +44mm offset so moving to anything less than that, even +18, would move the wheel/tire outwards and increase clearance. +18 is nice compared to stock. -10mm is better if you want that deeper dish look and more inner clearance.

Oops, sorry I got it backwards…+18mm is what I landed on for poke out and when we mounted the new rim and tire, we full stuffed and max droop it to check rubbing and got none on the JT. Wasn’t really after the deep dish look. Greg_L, Thanks for keeping me straight, OP sorry about the dyslexic thinking moment, I’m sure it was a creeping senior event.

18" arer somewhat oddballs. Go with 17's, way more options for tires down the road.
