Those of you willing to buy through Carvana or anything similar are entirely too trusting, IMO. That's a large investment that you're purchasing and leaving in the hands of people you've never met, for an item you've never seen. I'd much rather spend an hour at the dealership doing paperwork and telling the sales guy no thanks to the 20 add-ons vs the numerous unknowns when buying a vehicle, sight unseen, from an online source.

Hell, I struggle with buying off Amazon. I want hands on, to see a product and see if it's what I want before I buy it. It's become too easy to buy things, and if it's not what we thought it was going to be we just throw it away and buy another. It's sad, honestly.

But thats the world we live in I guess. Human interaction is becoming a thing of the past. Everyone wants to do everything from the comfort of their couch. And this is all coming from someone who really doesn't like people.

I'm Gen-X and I agree that sitting down with a salesman and looking them in the eyes with a firm handshake is the best way to seal the deal.

I've hired several Gen-Z employees and have occasionally had to adapt my own thinking. They often embrace a group-oriented mindset, valuing others' opinions as much as - or sometimes even more than - their own, provided those views align with their core beliefs.

Gen Z is the first truly "digital-native" generation. Having grown up with smartphones and social media, they are highly comfortable with e-commerce. Their online shopping habits are driven by convenience, seamless social commerce, peer reviews, and the desire for personalized, value-driven experiences.

I think the old-school sales approach may be a thing of the past. That may not be such a bad thing, but there are certainly limitations in buying a Jeep the same way as procuring an iPad. And as stated earlier, the dealers won't go away quietly.

I'm Gen-X too, but I'd rather do all the negotiating by email - not because I'm scared of dealing with salesmen; it's a strategic decision that negates most of their manipulation tactics.

I'm Gen-X and in sales. I do the same.

I'd rather get a cavity drilled than deal with the schmucks at the dealership. When I bought her Bronco Sport the finance guy swore up and down we were buying a Ford extended warranty. Come to find out when i got the first statement from FoMoCo credit it was in fact NOT their warranty but the dealer's own. I immediately contacted the dealer to cancel it and the charges were reversed. I only hope the lying schmuck had gotten paid and then started out the next period in the hole for his dishonesty.

Starting way back in 2008, when internet sales was in its infancy, I ran internet departments of a lot of dealerships over the years. I hate a lot of things about the auto industry so I went to it when it became an option because I love the transparency. I’ve been out of the biz for several years now, but I still buy vehicles like that. It’s also so much less time at the dealership if you do it right.

I just paid cash for a 2025 Gladiator a couple of months ago with 7000 miles on it and it went smoothly. When they delivered it on a truck 3 days later a rock hit the windshield and cracked it. They immediately replaced the windshield with factory glass. My title arrived a couple of weeks later. I must be one of the lucky ones. I’m happy with it.

I'm actually the same way. I do all of the transactions via email (sometimes text) and then I go in and sign the paperwork. Especially with two active boys. But I do want to see the salesperson and shake their hand at the end of the day.

The best transaction I ever had was my 2020 Gladiator during COVID. All communication was via email and I did all paperwork via DocuSign. I wanted a Gator and they even traded for one in Arizona off of just me saying "yes" in an email. I didn't even meet the sales lady. I went to the dealership and picked up the keys. Everything was done.

So maybe I am more like Gen-Z than I thought ...hahaha 🤔 :CWL:
