Love this, but why not just have the license plate mount in front/above the hitch and have it on a hinge to be able to use the hitch?
I agree that I wouldn’t like my plate on the tailgate. I’d want to figure something else out.

EVO makes a relocation bracket to the left lower corner using OEM bolt holes. I'm sure it ould also work on the right side as it mounts to the hinge point.

Still on the tailgate but at least its not front and center by the handle.

EDIT: sorry, see someone beat me to it

I could be wrong but they will likely be quite on the tow rating thing, since that would involve a lot of overhead cost in testing and test to failure, calculations ect... that a small fab shop would have a hard time stomaching to sell less than 1000 of these things...

They have likely over engineered it, so maybe the question to ask is:
how thick are the hitch to frame mounting plates, what size and thickness is the hitch draw bar mounted to the frame plates, and what size and thickness is the receiver tube and how is all of it attached.

Then you as the consumer need to do your best comparison to what this design is to what a factory design is and decide if it's stronger or weaker then OEM.

You can make a hitch receiver strong as hell with enough metal and bracing, and still not have a "certification"

Then they should provide that information either here or on their website where it is readily available.... not make us hunt for it.

Hitch rated for hauling?

Steve
Not officially no. There is some standard process that you can go through to have a hitch officially 'rated' but that isnt something we are planning on at this time. Similar to others, we would advertise the hitch as 'offroad only'. That said, I think any of these questions as to whether it is ok to tow with would be answered when you mount it..

Does it include a relocation bracket for the license plate and lights or do we need to source that elsewhere?
It does not. This has been a sensitive subject as most people didnt like the center tailgate mounted plate, so we are leaving it up to the individual on what they do with their plate.

Ding ding ding!

The certification process to officially 'rate' a hitch would cost exponentially more than justifiable. This is exactly why ALL (There are only a few) other companies with a high clearance bumper / hitch advertise it as offroad only.
