I know we can check for ucconect updates on our own but is there a tool for consumers to check on pcm updates themselves?

Ok thats good i guess the lifter noise e

Alright thanks I figured its just the ticking of the fuel injectors etc at this point but it does sound like a diesel at times. Runs fine and oil is kept up. It doesn't get driven much (maybe 6000 miles a year.) That video was recorded on a cold startup so if it sounds ok to you guys I'm ok.
When I first bought mine I was also concerned about the ticking. I have been a fan of Amsoil for many years and changed to their oil after the first change. I did notice a big improvement but could still hear the ticking at idle. Well with 30000 miles on the odometer I figured I would run some injector cleaner so I purchased Amsoil fuel treatment and their upper cylinder lubricant for the fuel. I can't believe the difference if has made the engine is so quiet, I must say not expected.

Any updates on tsb #? I just called the local service center and they are pushed out until the second week of May for appointments. I gave them my vin and they didn't see any updates in their system for it... The 3rd gear hesitation is almost every time now and now when I'm light on the pedal between coasting and giving it some gas it's almost overcompensating and surging. But maybe I'm just not used to the drivetrain on this new symptom.

I have had a tick since the first second I picked up my JTR at the dealer in Aug of 2019. I mentioned it then and also brought it back numerous times to multiple dealers. It was dismissed as normal Jeep engine noise every time. I knew they were full of $hit. My JTR sounds like a 80's diesel Mercedes to this day....come to think of it I am pretty sure I posted a question about it in these forums back then...and here it is....

This is interesting. I have always had my Oil Changed and tires rotated every 3000-4000 miles. Lately, I have noticed a clicking noise when I cold start the JT. A little worried about her sounding like a VW Bug. the noise goes away.. eventually. Is this an immediate concern? Dealership says they can get me in 4 weeks from now. I have 74k on my 2020 Gladiator.

TIA

When I got my Jeep serviced this week, they did a pcm update, which is supposed to fix this issue. There is a service bulletin.
For a start-up tick?

Mine has a subtle valve train sound when taking off in cold weather. By the time the temp gauge even begins to move, or going about half a mile or so, the sound is gone and it's quiet.
NO ping, no knock, no unusual sounds at all at idle except a really small sound when it's cold and I simply take off.

Interesting I can’t find that TSB on NHTSA.
Things aren't always 100% current there. The manufacturer must submit if I recall correctly and it's likely that doesn't happen daily or even weekly.
The 2020 model JT has nothing since November of 2021.

That's dangerous - people will say "mine has a tick, I want the update" and then you get into a pickle as your tick has zip to do with any PCM update and is a more serious issue, or no issue at all. Self-diagnosing can be real trouble and is really bad for dealerships. It's similar to the reason most body shops won't paint a car prepped by the owner.

So you demand their time to perform a TSB and it fixes nothing - then what?

I mean I don't really demand they do anything, I'm just saying they can look up your vin and see if there is a VIN specific update available for the PCM. That's all I'm looking for as someone stated there was a pcm update for ticks but may be tied to manuals only. I have an auto.

You'll need to tell them about the ticking and ask them to look through the TSBs - but most would have done that already because it's an easy for them to find issues - look in the computer.

When mine was in last week for the ESS/battery thing they checked all current TSBs to check for anything connected.
They should do that for you as well, for that matter, for anyone.
And there may be a TSB for an engine tick, but it may be under other or specific conditions that don't match yours - so don't be surprised if they find nothing.

Got mine back today. New intake cam and rocker. Took almost a week but it is quiet now. It ticked/knocked all the time regardless of temp. Confidence took a little hit but all seems well now.

The change was made years ago. Yes, the JT DOES have VVL (variable valve lift) for a fact. It's listed in the build sheet, window sticker and elsewhere. There's no supply chain to it - the engine was changed back then. This was already in place by 2020.
They won't be still phasing this in 4 years later.
This is a Jeep Gladiator 3.6 cam and followers -

Here is a 2019 Wrangler cam and rockers - showing both the 2019 Wrangler and the 2020 Gladiator used the same engine, same cam design, same rocker design, both have variable valve lift (VVL)

@ShadowPapa What was the fix for this? I have the exact same issue. I just replaced the cam and all lifters/rockers, but Im afraid its only temporary. Currently, this thread is the only thread that I have found that replicates my issue! Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am currently stationed overseas (UK) with my Gladiator and am pretty much working on this issue myself and its driving me nuts. PLEASE HELP
