That's the code I got when my CEL came up.
Not happy about that. No warranty, 70 K miles. Dealer says he has to inspect the camshaft, timing components etc.
I have a feeling it won't be cheap.
At this mileage is this common ?? TIA

A worn down lobe on the camshaft causing the misfire I was told by the dealer. What kind of engineering is that !!??

Not very good. That's why they call it the "Pentastar tick." My camshafts went bad due to poor oiling.

This more than likely a camshaft position sensor or crank sensor . 2 camshaft sensors 1 5min. To replace the other 1hr. ...1 crankshaft sensor 5min. To replace . Cheap fixes . Echo of them around 40-45 dollars. Nothing but a thing.

P0008 isn't a misfire code, it's a camshaft out of sync or misalignment code. I'd agree that a good place to start is take a look at the camshaft position sensors & signals.

P0008 JEEP Engine Positions System Performance Bank 1
P0008 JEEP OBD Code Description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the position of both camshafts and the crankshaft. The ECM performs a test for misalignment between both camshafts on one bank of the engine and the crankshaft. During the test the ECM learns the position of the camshafts and the crankshaft. While the engine is idling, the ECM compares the position of both the camshafts and the crankshaft with the learned value. The ECM will set the P0008 JEEP code if both learned values for one bank of the engine are exceeding a calibrated threshold in the same direction.

Sounds more like a phaser or timing chain issue than a cam lobe. Would have expected a P03XX type misfire codes if cam lobe related.

Exactly agree and also add again OP look at the camshaft position sensors and High lift solenoid sensors.

OP also a Code without a Tick Tick tick tick tick ...well you get the idea is a clear sign to me to start with electronics . Aint saying a very slightly worn lobe can't cause this but I doubt it .

It was a worn down camshaft lobe. New camshaft put in. Expensive fix
