Hello everyone. I just started digging into this so my apologies if it’s redundant but I couldn’t find a thread that was relevant to my question. I’m looking for a code reader. I have the mini tazer but it just gives me the code I then have to look it up on the internet which would be impossible in the back country.
What are your recommendations for a code reader that can give me the code and give me a ball park idea of what it is without interference? I’m just now learning about the Jscan tool. Thanks for your help.

Or you can print out what the codes mean and have a reference. I'm sure there are more sources than this (it was the first one I searched for):
Jeep Codes – TroubleCodes.net

Right it will. But it doesn’t tell you what they mean.
I have a dongle and JScan for my truck, but I also keep a scanner like this one around as I end up scanning a lot more than just my Jeep. Ideally you want one that can look at airbag and ABS systems.

Nice. I was looking at that but it’s in store only and my local store doesn’t have it. But maybe I’ll have to travel a little

You can find a lot of similar ones on Amazon, etc. That's just a good example of the features you want a minimum. Harbor Freight used to have a lot more of them and readily available, so this makes me think they are culling their stock for new, updated products.

The auto parts stores usually have one just like it, as well.

Here is one at Oreilly's that has more or less what I would want in a standalone at minimum.

The sky is the limit with these things.

^^Yup, the Innova 5310 covers the minimum that you should have. I have the Innova 5410 and I really like it.

You would just google what the code means. I mean, you're going to google how to fix the problem anyways so why not google the code as well.

When you're in BFE, having the code definition is helpful because you can make a determination if it's a mission critical code or a nanny code.

Knowing what the code is when it happens is either "Great, I'm walking out" or "I must & can fix this right here" or "BFD, no one cares if my tailgate taillight is out."

I believe the Tazer just provides you the DTC code. A scan tool will generally give you the code plus a brief description of what that code means. Helps in a pinch to decide if this is a right now or a little later problem.
