Confused on Transmission Service

So, I got further clarification of how they came up with their numbers. In order to fully drain the transmission and put in new fluid, they have to drop the pan. Since the pan is single use only per the advisor, I have to replace the pan. Hence the numbers they came up with.

I'm only going by what I have been told. That's why I created this thread to find out what the greater Gladiator community thinks.

I think they say it’s a single use is because back in the day when the JT was a new thing, you couldn’t buy just the tranny filter. They made you buy a new pan which came with the filter bolted down inside so you had to buy the whole thing. If I’m not mistaken, today, each piece of it can be separately bought. So if you’re just wanting to do a pan drop and change the filter, you can pick up the filter from your parts department or Mopar on line.

There was also a note that said the fasteners were one time use as well. My understanding of the fasteners is that their torque value is 7.5 lbs or 89 in lbs. If you go even slightly over this by a lb or 2, they break so your torque wrench needs to be accurate.

If I was to drop the pan, I’d just buy a new filter and a set of fasteners. The gasket is reusable.

I would not want to reuse bolts that weak. I replaced the Aisin pan bolts on my Ram with grade 12.9 Allens and washers, for example. If I make a mistake and over torque, I might strip the aluminum threads in the transmission, but won't break off the grade 12.9 bolt first. I'd rather deal with a heli-coil than trying to remove a broken off bolt. Most likely, I won't have to do either, since I won't be using weak, junky fasteners.

Just had mine done, it was leaking from the pan gasket. They replaced the gasket but not the pan.

When I serviced my transmission the pan and filter was a one unit. I hope they have changed it, on my 2020 the filter and pan was a unit not separate. I purchased the parts and fluid on line and paid $350.

Did you have a one piece plastic pan with the filter built in? I did the fluid and filter change on my 2020 with the 850RE and it had the metal pan with the separate filter that was bolted into the pan. The pan and gasket are reusable.

Yes I had the plastic pan with the filter built in. I have thought about the after market pan that's aluminum and uses a reusable filter. I want to find out more about the filter they take.

I find it interesting you had the plastic pan. Since the launch of the JL and later the Gladiator with the 3.6L and the 850RE, they should have all came with the metal pan steel pan, reusable gasket and replaceable filter element.

I know other FCA/Stellantis models use the 850RE but with the plastic pan and built in filter.

That plastic transmission pan then got substituted in somewhere. From a daily driver standpoint, it is fine but there was a reason they catalog only a steel pan for our application.

The replacement kit I ordered was a steel pan. Only one of these I have fooled with, it's strange, however the transmission has 90K on it and is shifting like new. So I don't have a reasion to complain.

6-7 quarts or liters will usually cover a average service. When I did my 2020 Gladiator transmission service, it took 6.5 quarts.
