Nothing we do to our Jeeps is necessary ?

I can't really say whether the kilmat is all that beneficial, but it was only about $30 worth of sound deadener so figured I might as well do it while I had the top off and working on it. I plan to upgrade speakers and add a small powered sub to my base audio system so it's also a proactive step to help make that sound better later.

The topliner itself is only carpet material, there's no embedded deadener or insulative layer in it.

The top liner should be considered aesthetic only. By itself, I can’t imagine it offering much if any deadening at all. Trust me, don’t skip the deadener.

I just did the install over the weekend. The rear section was not fun. I worked with it for awhile and still not 100% happy with how it lines up. Most people would never see it, but I’m super particular. I used a bunch of Kill Mat and there is definitely a difference. Overall it’s a good add on.

I just noticed the other day getting into my JTR that the Coverking liner was pulling away from the hardtop along the edge where the top of the drivers side door goes. We had a cold night, so i'm not sure if the adhesive already starting to let go or what. I'll have to snap a picture when i see it again.

Mine is doing this as well. Tried sticking some 3M tabs in there, but that's not working either.

Does anyone happen to know what type of adhesive CoverKing provides? I'd like to get my hands on a bit of it to tidy up some spots that are puckering a bit.

Not sure what they use but if the edges are peeling up and you're sure you have coverage via the supplied adhesive strips and/or supplemental adhesive tape I'd bump up to something stronger with a thin foam core like 3M's double-sided VHT. I've hung body panels with this stuff where plastic rivets were shot etc. It's important to wipe the surface down with rubbing alcohol and then heat up both the VHT and surface.

Its not cheap tape but having it around comes in handy. Just make sure you peel and fold up a corner while cold, after warming it up its a PITA to peel up the backing!

Does anyone who has installed a Topliner on their Gladiator use a Lange Hoist-A-Top? My top hangs from one most of the Spring/Summer and I was wondering if it would cause any issues with the Topliner.

Does anyone have any info on the dB level post install for the Topliner? There seem to be quite a few for the hotheads liners (just watched a review for a JTR at 70mph, ~90dB before ~70dB after ) but I cannot find anything for the Topliner.

When I was young I was an audiophile dork, not so much a bass head but I obsessed about dynamics, staging, pressure etc. It would be hard to reproduce consistency with audio cabin intrusion reduction via db reader on a Jeep. I find it impossible to believe that any hard square panels adhered to any vehicles roof would achieve a 20db drop. For sure HH would never even attempt to claim that.

A 1db drop is a 7% reduction in sound energy. Once the science is understood behind it, it's easy to grasp that claiming any sort of treatment (even stacking 10 roofs on top of each other) to an isolated area of a vehicle could possibly reduce cabin noise by 20dbs is truly bonkers : o ) It would be near impossible to achieve that with a full on gutted vehicle job with roof, trunk, floor, door panels, firewall etc.

That said, the CK liner alone will offer little detectable sound deadening. What it does offer is a means to allow one to layer quality sound deadening material beneath it while offering a better than OEM look & feel when done.

I may have mentioned it in the video but if your goal purely revolves around achieving moderate deadening in a buttoned up and easy to install package, I'd rock HotHeads for sure. If the goal is to achieve the highest possible level of sound deadening with an OEM finish, to my knowledge the CK option is the only one. It's night and day.

One thing I noticed with the CoverKing and kilmat deadening is a much reduced feeling of cold radiating from the roof panels and seams (South Dakota winters here), and a bit less wind noise at highway speeds.

I also have my rear seats removed and replaced with a custom floor platform, and I used to notice a bit of a "hollow" sound to the interior with all the hard surfaces, and I do think the coverking/killmat combo helped me a bit with that too. If you have backseats they probably already absorb a lot of miscellaneous noises/sounds, so you probably wouldn't notice a difference.

All in all still very happy I went with the combo install.

I think I had ordered right before you and got mine a few days after ordering.

I'd probably just cancel your Quadratec order and reach out to @RealTruck for a quote on the CoverKing topliner, I bet they can get it close to that sale price. They just got me a great discount on a bedrug.

RealTruck has it for $319 right now. I can't decide if I want to try the Coverking or use something else like Hotheads. Y'all installs are making my decision really tough!!
