My awning arrived today, now just need to figure out how to mount it on my Smartcap. Anyone mounted theirs without load bars or rack on their cap?

My awning is sitting in the garage until my new load bars show up. I bought 51" 8020 extruded aluminum. The awning mount will go on the ends, bars will be perpendicular to the smartcap rails. You could do it cheap with the extruded aluminum from Amazon, but you might regret going cheap.

I was looking at 8020’s website today, what are you going to use to mount the extrude to the cap rails? I’m thinking just drill through the extrude and bolt it into the nut plates within the rails.

Which length is that and can you show how much overhang you ended up with on cab?

That’s in the bed of my 3500 dually 8’. So I’m a little worried lol

I have about a foot over the cab, I think I'm going to slide it back towards the bed overhang anyaays just be cause the awning hangs off the back anyway. Figure I may as well just line it up.

Did first test fit, have to cut my bars down to slide it in on top of cap and slide awning front about five inches, but it opened so easy and is pretty big for small sized one…..Jack

Ready for surf fishing tomorrow, slid awning in on side six inches, had to cut my bars also slid front so it looks to be that if it is raining with lift gate under should be dry, doesn’t look bad and rack is lockable on and easily removable with no tools going to figure something in garage under the doors to hang it on, with cables perhaps it is not too heavy including the rack maybe 55lbs.
Oh yes even though they give you enough bolts to but six on each bracket the middle slots were off about 1/4”, had to take it of again just use four!…….Jack
