Don't lie to me. We all know 10mm sockets are also rare, exotic tools. Just look ay my socket sets, apparently none came with the 10mm because it's so exotic ?"I didn't realize a socket set and some time were special tools."
The most exotic tool for replacing the auxiliary battery is the external torx socket you may need to swap the posts to the new battery if it didn't come with them.
Exotic is having a wench on the front of your Jeep.Don't lie to me. We all know 10mm sockets are also rare, exotic tools. Just look ay my socket sets, apparently none came with the 10mm because it's so exotic ?
The oem aux battery can run from $150 to over $180 (list price $265) at a dealership2020 Gladiator purchased in May 2020 - I asked my dealer to check my batteries while it was in the shop. They called me today and stated the batteries were "a little weak". They stated to replace both was over 900 dollars.
Is this normal these days? I know it takes some effort to get at the aux and I assume it's half OEM parts cost and half labor probably? (maybe more in labor)
This is not a gripe, just checking. I can easily do the main myself. The Aux will take some sneakiness as I am an apartment dweller and they don't allow us to work on vehicles on their property for good reason I suppose.
I can probably handle it at a friend's house when they have time for me.
However, back to the question at hand. Is this a normal charge these days for a dealership to replace both batteries?
combined voltage.I am testing out the solar trickle charger now that I have my truck back from the dealership. Working from my truck in case I smell anything burning.
Is the voltage readout just the starter? Combined readout because they are in parallel? Never understood this one.

Yes, the truck is completely off. I just put it on ACC to see the battery voltage. It has a lot of short trips on it. I have in the past taken off at like 5:30am and made a long freeway trip out to the desert and back,(about 4 hours), and they've recharged to the the point where ESS starts working again.combined voltage.
I take it the truck is off - and not in an ESS stop?
That's real low voltage.
Frankly, I'd put a REAL battery charger on it and charge the batteries. The solar will only maintain for the most part and not do a great job on a full charge. There's 4 phases of charging AGM batteries and it takes some real push to fully charge really low batteries.Yes, the truck is completely off. I just put it on ACC to see the battery voltage. Maybe I'll get them out this weekend and do that. I have a Noco 10amp charger that supports AGM so it's worth a shot. I just feel if I'm going to go through the hassle to pull them both out at four years in I might as well grab a couple new ones from Autozone and charge those up and drop them in?Frankly, I'd put a REAL battery charger on it and charge the batteries. Just connect it to the Main Battery. Use the nuts on the top of the negative post so it goes through the IBS. They are paralleled together, so it will charge both at the same time. Two more questions and I'll shutup:
1) Any recommendations on a stupid simple multimeter I can use to check amps etc from Amazon?
2) Is there a correct way to hook up the battery maintainer to this system when the batteries are connected to the Jeep? Or since they are in parallel does it not matter?
Harbor Freight has a plastic rivet tool that comes with 40 rivets for $15.99. They also have an extra pack of rivets for it, too. The rivets at Jeep are six or seven bucks a piece, you don't want to do that, being that you will probably fuck up the first one figuring out how to work 'em. That is after you buy the tool anyway.? I couldn't find the right size push- in, the closest size I could find at AutoZone was a hair too fat and I couldn't force it in the hole. Weather tech mud flaps come with a couple of them but they don't state the size, they just call them "plastic fasteners" in the installation instructions. I couldn't even match them up with the extras stash in my roll- away tool box and that holds over thirty years worth of odds and ends. This is a good thread for information. I was lucky (?) and my batteries failed and were replaced 2 months before the warranty ran out. I was looking at the scope of changing the aux battery and my wonderful dealer left out a few of the inner fender fasteners….
Looking to have some spares on hand for the “next” time - does anyone have a P/N or a source for the push in buttons to fasten the fender liners? They must be a common part but I looked around and didn’t find a sure fit replacement.
