While returning from a mudding trip, I lost power steering, went into limp mode and the battery died. All signs point to serpentine belt needs replaced. I found the belt locally and gonna attempt to do the replacement today. I’ll post how I do. If anyone has tips I’ll take them. Thanks!

Can you not see the belt on a diesel? The belt not being there would be the most obvious sign I would look for before buying what's usually a fairly expensive belt.

If it got wet and slipped then it doesn’t matter how many mile they have. Belts cheap change it and see

Have you tested the alternator to see if you didn’t kill it. I’d go with that as the cause before a new belt

Did you ever get the belt work completed. Im interested as Im getting a weird acceleration noise that Im thinking is either the tensioner/pulley or the idler pulley. I wanted to know how you went about it. Looks like there is a lower cover to remove, and Im not sure how to remove the upper left part, not sure what it is, air pump, power steering?? Opposite the alt on the other side. I can see the tensioner but its buried in there pretty good.

He packed the alternator full of mud. That was his problem. The power steering is an electric motor. It's not belt driven.

He has another thread about the alternator. The picture he posted. I don't know HOW he could have packed that much mud in it. LOL

put new belt in with new alternator. the shitty thing is you have to remove the alternator to replace the serpentine. also to remove it there is a tensioner right above the crank. just pull on that sucker and remove the alternator.

I just had my belt fail at 22K. Took it to a dealer, they said nothing was harmed and could see no reason for it. This reminded me to buy and carry a spare, plus make sure I have the tools and knowledge to change it. Very odd to me why it would fail so quickly, less than a year old

Ugg, that's why I avoid mud like the plague. Mud is bad news for vehicles long term health.
