Diminished Value on JT

Hello all
its been a minute since i have posted, i have been cruising around in my tiny rental.

the person who rear ended me was found at fault by their insurance and has agreed to repair my vehicle, it is currently in the shop and is sitting at about $7K in repairs.

I have tried to find out what my vehicle would be worth right before the crash to possibly do a diminished value claim.
there isnt much out there used for the MT segment of JT's. and the crash is already linked to my VIN so everything i look up for my jeep specifically comes back lower than i think it should be or would be pre crash.

can anyone on the forum help me out with this or shoot me a number that isnt them throwing something at the screen because they dont like the thread lol.

That sucks about getting rear ended. I am still waiting for my JT, but Monday morning while driving to work a kid in a super lifted 90s Cherokee was making a hell of a racket when it passed me driving the wife’s SLK to work. Two stop lights later the Jeep was in front of me, and the light changed to red. Then a horrendous squeal af tires and smack into the back of some ladies car. I wonder how much the lift caused the Jeep to fail to stop? I am guessing the kid was not paying attention.

I wish you luck! About 8 years ago I drove my *brand new* Subaru Outback 3.6R off the lot in Seattle with 6 miles on it, went 180 miles down I-5 to Portland for a weekend getaway with my wife. Gave it to the valet at the Westin in downtown PDX and went in to check in. Heard a loud squeal and crunch. Valet pulled into traffic, front bumper and driver-side fender got peeled off. Valet company's insurance covered the repairs, but I fought tooth and nail on a diminished value claim and got nowhere. I'd forgotten about all of that until I read this post, and wish I could go back to forgetting about it

Based on what I was told on the fully loaded JT Overland (loaded except proximity entry system) I'd say about 48,000 trade for a similar Rubicon JT. Outright sale, haven't figured that yet.
Luckily my truck is covered for replacement value - that's normal for our policies for something like the first 4 or 5 years then that drops off.

So this isn't the perfect solution, but it will get you in the ballpark: Go to the Carvana website and select the "sell my car" option, then instead of putting in your vin or license plate, scroll down to the "don't know your vin?" option and manually select your information, and select "zero accidents". Get your Jeep's value, then go back and keep everything the same but select 1 accident, and compare the two results. It was about $2k on my Chevy, but might be different on the Gladiator. This will give you a very good estimate of the diminished value, at least as a starting point to talk to the insurance company. States vary with their rules about how (or if) an insurance company will compensate you for the added loss, so you need to talk to your insurance company. Since they are not responsible for the loss, they might be able to give you advice on the rules in your state and how to approach the other insurance company. Some states allow the insurance companies to require onerous inspection processes that make it hard to collect, and knowing the rough amount of money via the carvana method helps decide if it is worth pursuing.

Thanks moose, I have tried apparently it's to new for the carvana system, I will try and talk to my insurance company, good idea.

Lol renegade after I got over the "wait minute is he saying my jeep is only worth 2k now like some kinda wiseass" I deduced that's what you meant.

Any time I had to support a diminished value claim, I just asked the dealer I bought the vehicle from to write me a letter stating the value with no accident, vs value with accident. If the dealer repairing your JT is not the same as the one you purchased from, they should be willing to assist as well.

I tried the DIY method of determining a suitable payout on my damaged Commander, and their insurance company didn't take it very seriously. I then spent around $100 to have specialists prepare a comprehensive appraisal and ended up settling for a $6000 payment.
