Disabling ESS

You're learning quickly that Jeep means Just Empty Every Pocket. Bad financial decisions are common trait amongst us...

End of the day, the harness is the most cost effective way to bypass ESS without hitting the button every time you start (and not throwing codes/lights in the dash) but without removing and bypassing the aux battery the risk of it bricking your Jeep at the worst possible time is still there.

Ultimately you've got a 6 year old truck likely with a 6 year old battery. Save your $$ and swap out the OEM battery for the Group 94 Odyssey. Watch for the sales, they're out there. I'd been saving for the Antigravity but the deal I got on the Odyssey was too good to pass up.

Hey Forum, After multiple years of reading about ESS and how to disconnect.. Get this.. ESS will still pull voltage from the Main battery; even with the Aux bat removed. I fail to comprehend what is that difficult to push the ESS Off button .. it is within a hand width of the start button. My 0.02 worth is push the F'ing Button every time. While at it you can push the ESC button to and light up the tires on take off if you only half throttle the skinny peddle.

How about the greasy finger stain and unusual wear around the ESS off button? Eventually a stain or excessive wear on the button and surround plus you may eventually fail the button by excessive use, it isn''t indestructible.

So an owner should screw with one system, hood plunger, to change the features of another? Simply buy the ESS disable gadget, move on, and don't mess up another system.

Then, get rid of that aux batt. Mine has been gone for three years-no issues at all, just run the leads from below up to the main battery and done. No fuse pulls, no relay pulls. Everything powered. Simple.

I clearly stated where I stood if one wants to disable the ESS when I said "you’re better off getting the module that turns it off for you or just hit the button" Most people that delete the aux battery do because the don't want the 2 battery setup, not to disable ESS. People seem to try to jump through a lot of hoops to get rid of ESS. I hate it too but I hit the button every time...

If you do this and use JSCAN, will that turn off the warning light? I originally bought JSCAN because it was always mentioned with Tazer, but when I tried to use it, I could only find where you had to disable the hood sensor. I haven't messed with it since.

Honestly, I'm not sure. Hopefully someone that's done it chimes in. But I would also be curious if you lose your remote start as well.

You cannot disable ESS with Jscan. You have to physically disconnect the hood plunger to get it to stop ESS. This does interfere with Remote Start, and may leave a Warning light on the dash.

Jscan is used along with a Tazer to make the system changes before the Tazer is installed. It eliminates the problem of all the changes being removed when the Tazer is unmarried.

When I unmarried my Tazer for a dealer visit, I left it installed. I was planning to unplug it when I got to the dealer. ESS switch still remain in the last position that I left it. I'm sure unplugging it would cause it to default on. My passive entry would not work with the tazer plugged in and unmarried. I had to marry it for that option to function again.
