I don't know if it's urban legion, but I remember hearing that at 10 and 2 o'clock and above your arms have a greater chance of being broken in case of an airbag deployment. I'm not going to test this out.
That’s what’s brought up in the article, thus the recommendation to hold the wheel at 9 & 3.

Used heater first time this fall today, no problems. 5 minutes driving and the whole wheel was quite warm, almost hot.

I love mine. It gets nice and toasty. I also like that it heats the whole wheel. My wife’s Subaru only heats the 9 & 3 areas.

I’m saying either method is correct, just what the insurance institute has recommended for vehicles with air bags in the steering column. Personally, I only ever drive with 1 hand on the wheel (either one) and they are usually at 8 & 4.
I was taught the 8/4 method when training for 3rd world driving. Allows you to quickly "pass" the steering wheel from one hand to the other during turns without crossing, and gives you the most range of motion in an evasive maneuver while being able to keep at least one hand on the wheel. And of the two-handed methods, it results in the least amount of arm fatigue on long trips.

As for heated steering, it is adequate most of the time. I was doors off heading in to work a few mornings with temp dipping to 40. For those drives, I was at 9 and 3 so the heat from the vents would blow up the sleeves of my hoodie.

My heated seats and steering wheel are awesome. This is the first jeep or vehicle ive owned, that have had those options. Most of the time I don't even use my heater and Iam in Ohio. I don't know if I can ever go back.

Update to original post. I took it to the dealer after the steering wheel had been on for 30 min and it was barely warm and they agreed to order a new one. We will wait and see.

This true, 8/4 is used by certain training programs for those reasons.
I find it to be the most comfortable and in control.
To each their own I guess.

Mine gets warm enough that I usually have to turn it off.
Same here. No matter how cold it gets the heated steering well it's always hot and it's my favorite feature.
