... Was hoping for a little tighter window than 'calendar year 2020.'
You and many others LOL
Jeep hasn't come out of the gate very hard w/ production of the diesel Wranglers, maybe they are focused on that for now.
I just hope they are actually able to roll out the 3.0L JT before the end of this year! Looking to order in ~July but we'll have to see.

ok, ok, DPF, EGR, DEF, power, delete, emissions, torque, etc, etc etc, pay-for-itself, waste-of-money, complain, argue, yadda yadda yadda,

BUT, and I can't stress this enough, DO WE KNOW WHEN THE ECODIESEL WILL BE RELEASED???
I've said it MANY times. I have it on good information that the Gladiator diesel build is scheduled for this April. No information on when the order window opens, but my WAG is Feb/March.

I'm choosing to believe Billy and his secret sources. I need my JTRD by June

Seeing as how FCA promised the diesel as "late availability" when the JL was released at the end of 2017, and those are just as of the last week or so starting to trickle into dealerships, my guess is that it will be a long wait for a JT diesel. They're probably wrestling with how they're going to offer the diesel in the pickup without having to saddle it with a 650 lb. payload rating.

It's not that easy. The GVWR is 6,250 lbs. maximum on Gladiator, and that requires a Rubicon or Max Tow. Let's use Rubicon as an example... it currently has a 5,000ish lb. curb weight leading to a 1,200 lb. payload capacity. If you throw a diesel engine in there at 400 additional lbs, that would lead to 800 lbs. left for payload.

If you do the same for an Overland, which has a 5,800 lb. GVWR, then the results are even worse.

So, since 400-800 lbs. of payload capacity is totally useless as a pickup truck, they will have to do some clever changes. I'm anxious to see how they pull this off, IF they pull it off.

Yeah, they clearly have no idea what they're doing...

I'm not an automotive engineer, so I have no idea what all goes into certifying a truck for a higher GVWR. But, that seems like the only option they've got if they want to offer the diesel AND keep a somewhat respectable payload/towing capacity.

The way GM gets away with it on the Colorado Duramax is that their truck weighs 500 lbs. less, so with their GVWR at 6,100 lbs. it leaves them room for decent payload and towing. FCA is going to have to figure something out with the Gladiator.

They already said the diesel would have a slightly less towing rating, but everyone assumed it was due to cooling issues. We may have uncovered the real reason here, in extra weight of the engine. Truthfully it doesn't matter to me, because I'll NEVER tow more than about 5000 lbs with it. But when I do, it'll still have plenty of giddy up. I work in aviation, and we like to call it haulassicicity.

It seems to me that the challenge of raising the GVWR on the JT diesel is no different than that faced by conventional pickup manufacturers who have the same basic truck in a half ton, three quarter ton and one ton version. They tweak components as needed to beef up the vehicle to handle the additional weight. If they keep the same weight rating on the diesel JT and reduce the payload capacity to make up for the additional engine weight, a lot of people will have to reconsider the diesel. I for one think the time it is taking to bring the diesel to market may have to do with the modifications that will be required to support the additional weight and torque, just as has been the case on the JL diesel. I am eager to see what they will all be.

I'll be one of those people that has to reconsider the diesel is the payload is reduced by much at all from the gasser. I can deal with the tow rating going down all the way to 5,000lb as that will still more than meet my needs (just got the wife a 2020 Ram 1500 Hemi to tow bigger stuff if needed). I need the payload carrying overland gear.
