So my wife gets a laugh every time I wave or am waved at by another Jeep on the road.

I like the sense of community this simple gesture provides- similar to motorcycle riders do.

So, do you wave ?

I always try to wave back to any Jeep/offroad vehicle. I typically only initiate waves to other Gladiators though.

If I'm waved to first only. Otherwise no.

This tradition started as something interesting, unique and honest and turned into a corporate sponsored advertising campaign for jeep and just doesn't feel genuine anymore.

If it has round headlights or otherwise catches my eye that it's a Jeep, I wave.
I was going to agree with this, plus YJs, but...

As long as they don’t have the angry eyes grill, I wave at all wranglers and JT’s…..
I definitely hold out on crazy mods, like angry eyes.

Longtime Jeep guy and multiple Jeeps over the years, my fist car was a YJ, so I've always waved. It's just a habit that's hard to break when I'm driving something else.
In order of wave vs wave back:
-CJs or any Jeep over 40 years old will always get a wave and will almost always wave back every time unless they don't see you.
-YJ and TJs will always get a wave and usually will wave back. Usually has to do with the age of the driver it seems.
-JKs will always get a wave, but seem to be the worst about waving back IMO. A lot of new Jeep people are in JKs, so I just don't think they know or care.
-JLs or JTs will always get a wave, this seems to be about 50/50 for wave back. With the new marketing these owners are more aware of the wave so it's more often than the JKs, but still a lot of new Jeep people who don't know or don't care.
-XJs or MJs will usually get a wave, and will usually wave back pretty excitedly that they got waved to.
-All other Jeeps, I don't really bother to wave to and I can't think of any who have initiated the wave to me that I've seen while not on a trail.
-Non Jeep off-road vehicles, this is a sometimes wave situation based on if I like their rig, they rarely wave back though.

My wife makes fun of me a lot for taking part in "Car Cults" her words not mine. My Summer car is a WRX and i get waved to alot, I'm so-so at waving back. When i finally get the JT I'm going to try and get better at waving back. Odds are i'll start waving from the Forester and just confuse a lot of WRX and Jeep owners. It's easier to wave when your hands aren't busy.

My wife is envious of the Jeep wave and wishes Durango owners would have something like it too.
