This problem has a very simple solution that doesn’t require spending any money on a Tazer or doing any weird modifications.

Put the truck in ACC mode, turn the headlight dial to “Off”, hit the “screen off” button on the radio, and pull up the handbrake. ACC will keep the radio on, the handbrake will keep the DRLs off, and the screen off does what it sounds like.

The hand brakes do a good job of keeping these things put. I tested it more than once without realizing it. Wish the thing did more than give me a red light - like buzz my seat like a dog training collar or something.

Hah!

I’m a firm believer of never leaving a vehicle without the hand (or “parking” if it’s a foot pedal) brake engaged. Half a second to do, increases safety, and keeps stress off the parking pawl in the transmission.

Yeah, I've seen some serious damage done inside transmissions......
I also know of a car that was taken to a shop and left - and someone at that shop not only didn't set the brake, the car wasn't fully in park. It rolled back onto the street where it was promptly hit and totaled. If the dope had at least applied the brake that likely would not have happened.

We’re sitting in an open bed. How are we going to get carbon monoxide poisoning? We do have such a box. I’d just rather not have to rely on it.
I remember going to a drive in back in 83 or 84 and being last to leave except when I went to start the battery was dead. Luckily the projectionist was still there and jumped us.

People get it from boats.

Carbon monoxide is heavier than air.
No, it's about the same -

Air - 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen (and a minuscule amount of argon and CO2)
Nitrogen has a weight of 28.013 while Carbon Monoxide (CO) has a weight of 28.011.
CO mixes with Air as their weights are approximately the same.

There's a myth that carbon monoxide alarms should be installed lower on the wall because carbon monoxide is heavier than air. In fact, carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and diffuses evenly throughout the room.

Our CO detectors were installed about a foot below the ceiling on the walls of the room where our furnace and water heater were when we moved in. A professional installed everything.

Sorry for the misinformation and thanks for the correction.

Carbon monoxide is not heavier, but instead slightly lighter. Not sure where I got that from.

Same place I get sometimes not correct information - it's passed along and we accept it. Been down that road.
I remember hearing "CO is heavier than air, put the sensors down low, don't lay down" etc. growing up.

Possibly thinking about the differences between Propane and Natural Gas.

JSalbre - fantastic! A dry run shows that this nearly solves the problem. The dash lights are still on with ACC and will not dim, but that can be solved with a sweatshirt instead of a pizza box! The radio still “times out” though, but can be restarted.

We’ve got a near solution in classic jeeper workaround mode. Now #jeep, how about a “drive-in” setting that does all of these things please?!

If you put it in RUN mode without starting the engine, does it timeout like it does in ACC mode?

In the name of all things holy….don’t sit in the back with the motor running. I cringed when I read that.

i think I saw where the Bronco has a “drive-in” mode. Go figure.

Anyway, in most cases you can just use a blue tooth speaker and a ap. Our local theater you go to their web page and just play the audio to your phone, and from phone….speaker.

That little $300 Jeep speaker works like a champ for that :), or any other for that matter.
I have two 100W blue tooth speakers I bring to if I want…left and right. People love it.

The problem being? (other than the waste of fuel and the cat and exhaust getting hot, that is)

The noise and the pollution.
Luckily these are so quiet some almost forget to shut them off when getting out. My wife has actually done that with her Jeep. I've started to get out forgetting it's still running.

Pollution - yeah, that's one.
Total waste of fuel when there are ways around it.

And - there are laws against it in many locations now. I have a big PDF file listing laws and ordinances against idling - sometimes it's a fine for idling more than 10 minutes. Some more, some less.
