Went to Atlantic Beach this afternoon. Did a few miles in the soft deep stuff. The Mojave did amazing! You can see how deep the sand was on the tires! Did not air down, I feel it is not needed with a 12.5" wide tire. 4WH and no rear locker, no problem!

20 PSI and then down to 17 if you want. Don't forget 4WD. You would be amazed at how far down the beach you can get in 2WD at 17 PSI coming off the access road. (05 Unlimited, 32x11.5) Only problem is when you stop, you sink 1n inch or 2. I always did 4Hi. 10 years surf fishing (9 months a year), in Delaware.

I'll be the other guy on the beaches in DE with the Gladiator (Sting Gray).....maybe you can give me some "fishing" tips. So far we've only gone out at the Cape.....but would love to try Keybox

You’ll see me around the Delaware beachs, usually 3R, life guard station and the Cape point, Blue Mojave will have cooler rack on front, and RSI cap with rods and kayak on. Been going down there since 1978, been a DMS member a long time .....Jack

I'll drop this in here. Very clever self extraction technique if you dig yourself a hole. Low air pressure, 4lo, lockers if you got em, slowly spin the wheels and turn left and right.

Guess I'm doing it wrong. I like to not air down, switch to 2WD high, lock the rear lockers, disable traction control and ABS, switch the auto trans to manual mode, and keep it near the rev limiter.

That is a good trick. When I started watching and saw it was coming from Dubai, I thought, he should know how to drive in sand.

Why does airing down work? A 20 to 25% reduction in air results in almost 250% increase in contact (floatation)!

I actually think SL is 10 psi

Pretty sure SL is 15 pis max. I run 8-10 when I am there. To much wheel hop when I get above 10.

Hey, Freebooter, I am a native of the other Beaufort, now living in South Florida.

That is the kind of beach sand that needs a Gladiator. Can hardly wait until my next trip to OBX.

Also almost retired.

We live about an hour and 20 minutes from wilmington. we spend a LOT of time at Carolina and Kure Beaches. I may catch hell for saying this, but, we never air down. Even the staff that sells the passes at Ft Fisher will tell you "if you have a Jeep, don't bother airing down". We've had no issues with a JKU Sport, an OM, a JL Rubicon, or the MOJAVE. Actually, the only one that even made me the slightest bit nervous, was the one that was built for the sand...because somebody at Jeep decided it was a good idea to put mud terrain tires on it. At the end of the day, do what makes you comfortable. If you don't air down, there are plenty of Jeeps willing to help out an inexperienced driver...and then...there's always "Brutus"!!! (If you don't know, you'll see him).

I put mud terrains on my rubicon and it handles better on Ft Fisher and Ive never let the air out. To me they have better traction so long as you dont spin them to dig but those lugs are also what help pull you in the sand. Ive always been told AT tires are better but I'm not convinced of that any longer. I really want to try a Mojave to see if its truly that much better driving out there. It could sway me to trade since I really dont do much rock crawling on the coast lol.
