I’m looking for experience on a re gear. I’m looking at 4.88s. I will eventually be pulling a small camper 4,000lb or less across the Ozarks on 37s. Just wanting to help out 3.0 as much as possible.

I pull that somewhat regularly in the summer in my boat on 37’s. Not sure I’d regear even still. 4.88 will be too tall for 37’s in my opinion for all the months that you aren’t towing a trailer in the Ozarks… again, my opinion. But that’s worth what you paid.

From all the other threads on the subject. 4.88's with 37's is a bit much. 4.30's would be perfect, but that gear isn't made. Then 4.56's would be your best gear. You could still do 40's with that gear.

Thanks guys for the input, I’m not sure how I missed that thread. I believe I will be going with the 4.56s for now.

Just installed 4.56 gears in combination with 35” tires.

I routinely tow a 6k travel trailer over grades..

So far, I’m pretty pleased with the results. The truck spends much less time hunting through gears and cruises at about 2,200 RPM when going between 75-80mph.

Also gives me a bit of room for moving to 37” tires in the future.

What about empty? I’ve heard mixed results with 37’s and 4.88 freaking the truck out when it’s in 4th gear before getting across an intersection.

It honestly feels as it did before moving up to the 35s — I was driving for about a week without recalibration and the speedometer was actually accurate according to my gps app on the iPhone. Almost feels like I wasted a couple hundred dollars purchasing the tazer mini to reprogram gears and tire size.

I am very happy with the decision.

Good to hear, I'm going to 4.56s next week. I'm also on 35s with the eventual move to 37s.

Pretty sure that you will be satisfied.

I went with a Yukon kit — which also included new snazzy covers.

How are your MPG after a regear? I was quite satisfied with 37” and 3.73, but there that thought … “how much better are 4.56 🤔

coincidentally, 37” tires and 3.73 have the same effective ratio as a Ram ecodiesel and the efficiency gears, 3.21. Actually a hair better at 3.31 effective ratio.

Here is the chart my local 4x4 shop recommends for gears. They also have a youtube channel so you can checkout their builds.

The difference there being the Ram has a much lower coefficient of drag that you need to make up for with the Gladiator, even before any of the mods and shit most of us bolt to it. Not to mention the rolling resistance of the 37s themselves and the lower psi you need to run them at.

Speculation at best. The Jeep has a drag coefficient of .45 or something close and the Ram I googled to be .36, so yes more aerodynamic, but the Ram is larger. Someone needs to measure their frontal area and multiply it by the drag coefficient … they may not be too far off aerodynamically when you take into account their size.

Well when the same engine stock for stock equipped in both yields 15-20% better mpg in the ram and swapping to 37s on the 3.73 drops mpg by 15-25% alone I think it's pretty solid speculation backed up by everybody's experience who's lifted and/or regeared a Jeep ever, and common sense, but ok.
