Question. Anyone try to block off their EGR diffuser pipe? The computer smart enough to to know it’s plugged ???

Just had a thought, if we can plug the diffuser pipe with a sheet metal plate, we can keep ALL soot from entering the intake … just wonder if the computer is “that” smart.

Yes it very likely is! In the car line I worked on( non diesel ) it would shoot you a check eng light and a P401 code for EGR clogged.

From the Ram ecodiesel forums it will throw a code if completely blocked, but some have drilled a hole in their block plate that reduced the flow about 50% and not got a code.

I wonder if instead of blocking it off, try and vent it somehow by blocking the spot were the EGR pipe enters the intake, and venting the sooty exhaust between the EGR and intake.
It may not throw a code that way since the EGR would still be flowing exhaust.

I had a thought, we can just vent it back to the exhaust, and block off the intake port. Or vent the EGR into the air box, let the filter absorb all the soot. I wish GDE would license their tune to a Canadian tuning company, I want GDE quality without EGR.

has anyone pulled the diffuser tube off of a GDE tuned truck and had a peak inside? I know they use more of the low pressure (filtered/post DPF) EGR circuit …

Why not just clone the ecu and have it shut off….. 🤔 there really isn’t a cheap way to get around any of this. Tune will allow you to run a catch can, actually take advantage of an intake, etc…..

That’s a tangent, will the GDE tune allow a catch can??? Or you talking about the Canadian guys ???

There is software out there that lots of euro folks use to de active things discussed here. It would involve pulling your ECU rom and running it through the software to disable DTC flags. If you want to do some research you can do searches for Bosch EDC 17C69 (the ecod ecu) and dpf, flaps and such.

Not sure how effective the software is but the official version sez it supports the EDC 17C69. But it's something the DIY can screw with if they don't want to go full tune route. I would suggest keeping a spare ECU clone on hand and have one you screw with to see what happens.

Call EcoDiesel owners of Canada or MRtuning.
Definitely get a separate ecu tuned and mail it off…

personally- the truck is running ~30psi stock, it’s efficient enough for what it is. Having only had deleted diesels prior to this one….. I personally wouldn’t peruse anything more than the egr shut off, “stage 1” and a transmission tune.

The transmission tunes, in my opinion have been low played…. Trans tune really changes the way this transmission behaves and puts power down.
