Gear ratio has absolutely nothing to do with steering, wandering, ride, etc.

Small changes to tire pressure, like going from 43 PSI which is how the trucks are shipped to 37 PSI which is spec will also have ZERO effect on handling, wandering, etc. I had to demonstrate this for the JL guys by going from 25 to 50 PSI up and down with the exact same wandering issue at any pressure.

Having said all of that, I have driven both 3.73 and 4.10 equipped Gladiators and they handled exactly the same. Identical.
Thanks, my thought is not the gear ratio but rather the wider axles with the 4.10, and the potential correlation (good or bad) to handling issues. The gears is just a simple way of differentiating between the two options.

I have an Overland with the tow package and 3.73 gears. The factory tow package is supposed to come with better axles, which may affect the handling. The 4.10 gears are only available on the Sport S Max Tow and the Rubicon. Whether or not it has the Factory Tow package would be a better differentiator than the gearing.

No, The wider track axles are only with the 4.10 gears and not available on Overland trim. Regular Tow package adds the Equipment listed below to all trims. The Sport and Sport S can get Max Tow with wider axles and 4.10, or the regular tow group addition. Rubicon has 4.10 and wider axles stock.

I think something that is being left out for those who answer is if they came from another Jeep or something different. I came from a 2017 GMC Canyon to my Sport S with Max Tow and I have to say, it's one wandering fool!! But, I'm either used to it or it's "settled" because I don't notice it as much. But when I get into my wife's car or my Thunderbird, I can tell the difference when I get back into the Jeep.

Description of the wandering. Massive dead spot in the middle of the steering when going straight. It pulls left and you correct then goes to far right then you correct. You make micro adjustments to get it going straight then it pulls and you start over. So you look like a drunk or distracted driver. All over the lane. Little left, left, right, right, back to the left and on and on. You are constantly floating between the edges of the dead spot and it is compounded by the 3-4 inches of play in the steering wheel.

This is my fourth Jeep and I have had other straight front axle vehicles. This is NOT normal. My belief it is a poorly designed steering gear box/power steering system.

Jump over to the JL site. There are numerous threads and posts and videos. And now the word is the NTHSA is looking into it. It will become a recall once Jeep is forced into it. Hope we get included in the recall.

Mine definitely does not do that. The high winds will push on it, but it drives straight with no slop in the steering.

I said better, not wider. I was under the impression that the Factory Tow package included better axles and brakes than the standard model, which may not be correct. I looked at my window sticker and it just shows 3.73 gears and Heavy Duty Dana 44 Axles as standard equipment.

Sorry not trying to be a jerk, just want to be correct for others, who may not know or be fed BS by ignorant salesman. Your axles are the standard D44 axles, same as what is found on the Sport and Sport S trims without the Max Tow option. The regular tow option makes no changes to the axles. Only the Max Tow option.

JT, Sport S, Max Tow, 4.10s, stock 245/75/17. Yeah it drifts on the highway. I would not call it wander, you might. Someone suggested maybe widetrack related?? Maybe, good suggestion!.

Back roads - corners and drives like a sports car. I can push this thing on the twists and turns of my standard 4 nights a week coastal drive (Photography and state hunting grounds 5 minutes from my house). Marshlands, bridges, farms and twists and turns, Delaware river, Delaware bay.

Drifting may go away with upgrades. Even if it does not, this dam thing drives like a cadillac in my old man opinion.

I appreciate your energy and description here and I respect it but this is why I say my 4.10 MaxTow DRIFTS..... I think your notes " Massive dead spot in the middle of the steering when going straight. It pulls left" and "You are constantly floating between the edges of the dead spot and it is compounded by the 3-4 inches of play in the steering wheel" are way different then how i would interpret it.

But you may just be doing a better job of evaluating and describing too, so I gave you that. I also recognize your experience in the industry so I may have to re-look at what I am seeing and feeling. I also appreciate your notes that this is happening over at the JL site.

Good Job!

Interesting, 37 votes so far and no votes for 3.73 with excessive wandering/drift issue post adjustments.

I have the max tow with 410s and have no wandering issues... it could be the tires, max tow and limited slips comes with AT duelers that the overlands and sports without max tow or limited slip have.. back in the day i put duelers on my old sport trac and the first set were great! wore them out and replaced with a similar set of duelers and the new set wandered a bit

It rides like a solid front axle...

I have to think this is imagined by those coming in from other platforms.
