Pretty sure my dip-shit uncle would take a look at the blown fuse and try to use a .22 cal round instead.
Man!!! I must be somebody's dipshit uncle...LOL. I remember using pennies to get out of the backwoods of KY as a very young man...

Fuses and circuit breakers protect Circuits consisting of everything in the circuit from a wire, fuse block, wire device and and switches. Yes you have to protect the wire but it is incumbent of the person doing the GMRs or Compressor or Fridge install to also protect the device. Saying leave a forty amp fuse in cause it came that way is wrong ,change it to a correct size for the circuit. Sizing the wires to say 30 amp rated to supply a small load of five amps , yes protect the wire which is being done with perhaps a 7.5 amp fuse in place of the forty. Adding an 7.5 amp inline fuse after the forty is acceptable but does add at least four more failure points ( 2-fuse connections and 2 wire connections)to the circuit.
As for which is better fuses or circuit breakers , most electricians I know will always say fuses as it is a thermal reaction to load or fault while a circuit breaker uses pivots ,spring, connections ,sensors and a lot is mechcanical. A properly sized fuse will blow when needed, and when tossing it in the trash to replace with replacement that is 100% ready , think to your self “That is a good fuse it worked”. When closing a breaker after a fault close your eyes and stand on the left, cause do you really know how it cleared the fault and is it going to bite you this time.
I have Voswitch panel came with all forty amp fuses and instructions say to replace with properly sized fuses.
I must say this thread was a good read, thanks boys!….Jack
