I'm having trouble deciding between the Falkens or the BFG 285 70 17s. Can anyone who has had both comment? I picked up the Falkens on JT Rubicon wheels this weekend and then this morning found a JL Rubicon sets of BFGs so I snatched those up as well. While I know I shouldn't expect a ride as smooth as the Bridgestones it came with (I have a Sport S Max Tow), the Falkens are noticeably louder and rougher.

I have a set of BFGs on my LJ and have been happy with them but looking for feedback here nonetheless.

The 'look' of the tires also weighs in. I think I prefer the appearance of the BFGs a bit too.

Gonna be very tough to come up with any ways the BFG’s aren’t the best. They are outstanding tires in every way.

Only differences I can imagine could be mud or snow performance but you’ll need to do a lot of research online on the tire websites to finalize this decision from a factual standpoint otherwise it’s all just opinions . Like mine

I had thought about just trying to find a set of Rubicon wheels and go with

285/70R17 BFG Wrangler Duratrac

I've been told they are good with snow and not bad on ice.............. don't know a lot about them otherwise, though.

When picking between BFG and Faulken, when I upgraded to 37’s, the guys at Discount Tire said that the Faulkens have a tendency for cupping. The Faulken price was also higher. I’ve only ever had great experiences with BFG, and since Discount Tire sell and install a lot of tires, I went with the BFG’s.

I would put the BFG's on the better rated JT wheels and call it good and best of both.

Since I can't find and take-offs tire/wheel combo within a day's drive, may try to find Rubicon wheels and buy tires locally.

So I’ll be the contrarian here and say the last set of BFGs I had I was not at all impressed with wet traction. I bought a low mileage (2000 miles) set off of a JLR for my Tacoma. They wanted to spin every time I took off from a stop when it rained. The Wildpeaks I had on the truck before them had no issues at all. I ended up putting a set of Wildpeaks on my LJ and kept them on the JT when I went up to 35’s. I had a fried. With a similar experience on his Silverado with BFG ATs and also a similar good experience with the Wildpeaks, so I’m sticking with them for now.

I can't speak for the Falken MTs but I have several sets of Falken AT3w running on vehicles in my family. In various sizes. The largest in on my son's F150, those are 315/70/17. Have seen no issues. Excellent highway ride, excellent snow/ice performance. Aggressive sidewalls make them a great choice for someone wanting an aggressive looking tire without the ride of a MT. My wife had them on her Cherokee Trailhawk she had and I will put them on her Grand Cherokee when the time comes.
I have no recent experience with BFGs. In past years I always liked them but always had issues with poor wear, cupping, and feathering of tread. A lot of this may have been the vehicles as well but I know I'm not the only one.

I've had both and I'd go Falken every time. The BFG tires are the most over-rated tires on the planet. The KO2, in particular, is horrible about throwing gravel and it won't clean itself worth a crap in the mud and snow either. The Falken A/T3W is one of the best tires I've ever owned.

I have the stock Falken mud terrain and I am very impressed with what it can do. It is way, way better than the K02 in the mud and I have been running it at 15 lbs in the rocks and sand and it behaves like an all-Terrain. So far, no downside to the Falken M/T, and they sure do look good. I also usually buy BFG religiously, but, I doubt I will when these wear out.

Note: BFGs are great when they start to get worn out. They do not make noise and they do not cup. The jury is still out on the Falken.

I have the Falken AT3/W on my Chevy 2500 and they have been fantastic so far over about 40,000 miles. Still plenty of tread and doing great.

My rubi came with the same tires in 33". I'm going to go to 35's, and may stay with Falken.

I've owned both on my F150 and I prefer the KO2's. My falken at3w's were quiet when new and got louder over the 15k miles I owned them. If picking between only these two tires it would be the BFGs.

Just as an FYI, Duratracs are Goodyear.

It's interesting that there's been talk of the Falkens cupping and the BFGs not cupping. I have a set of Rubicon spec KO2s on factory wheels in my barn right now that have 5,000 miles on them and they're already cupping. You can visually see it, and you can run your fingers over the outer tread and feel the step up between sipes.

Conversely, I put nearly 30,000 miles on a set of the Falkens in the same size (285/70-17) on a 6,000 lb. F-150 and they showed no feathering, cupping, or poor wear at all. They were also $630 for the set, vs. $1,000 for the set of BFGs.
