because if idiots can't see this big bright blue summbich coming down the road, lights aint gonna help.
Can confirm. Big bright blue summbicb with 2.5” lift, 37” tires, and 10000lb winch wasn’t enough to deter a lady from pulling out in front of me, to the extent that I had to lock the brakes. And yea, the lights weren’t tampered with.

I only see one need to turn off DRLs in my opinion. I'm law enforcement and it's bad enough that my department unfortunately has white vehicles in itself. But I work a mid shift so I have a fair share of day and night on my shift especially now with time going back.

I turned off DRLs in my Durango so I can completely black out when I turn off my headlights at night; whether I'm sitting up watching something, sitting by myself getting caught up on paperwork, or pulling up to a run which I want to be discreet.

On my JT, I actually like the DRLs. The LED package as a whole was a must for me when I bought mine along with leather. I ended up getting mine fully loaded anyways

The 'Safety Experts' disagree with you. Eventually, we will be like Canada and the only way to get the DRL's to turn off is to engage the parking brake.
REAL experts have proven in scientific studies - they work. If they didn't, there'd be no money spent on the development, no effort put into them. It matters.
And around here the number of f'n idiots that don't use headlights at dusk, or when it's really cloudy is just crazy.
It's to protect people from themselves and each other - no matter how much a person hates such things.

@JTJeff84 the DRLs aren't made for you. They're made for the others you share the road with. Turning them off is a disservice. There's a reason they're mandatory in many countries these days.

But, if they really do bug you that much, I suppose you could just pull the bulbs, paint them black, and put them back in. You'll never really notice the difference as the driver, though, so why go through all that?

Including Canada, and Japan has taken it a step further - automatic headlights are required since 2020 model year.

From the web -

Even the US Department of Health and Human Services found DRLs to be effective.

But the use is right in the name daytime running lights - that is what they're for.
Read previous replies. DRL's are turned off and they are still on.

Read previous replies. There's a reason DRLs are designed to stay on during the day. You could always call Jeep and ask them why they made their daytime running lights stay on during the day, but you might not like their reply either.

In all seriousness though, what's the issue you're trying to solve? Is it just aesthetics? Or is there something functional you're trying to achieve?

Solution: if the lights go out with the parking brake, you could just adjust the parking brake to do virtually nothing when you pull it so the jeep thinks its parked? The majority of people don't even use their parking brake (I use mine every time).

Like others have said, turning them off while on the road is frowned upon as its a safety service for yourself and others. But, it's not our Jeep, its your Jeep.
