Final Navigation System Map Update Offer! Any genuine reason to do this?

Just received another email urging me to upgrade my UConnect Map software for $149. With all of the mobile mapping software available (Gaia, OnX, Waze, Google, etc) is there any reason Gladiator owners should bother with the UConnect update?

I mean hell, Garmin gives you lifetime updates for free....

can really save you if out of coverage and you didnt load in offline maps

I did this before on my 2020 driving from PA to Yellowstone camping, off-roading. It worked in Northwest Nebraska and eastern Wyoming - off the interstate where there was no cell signal for days. Otherwise, it’s not really necessary and probably won’t do it again.

There are updates to other aspects of the software as some have stated, although what those updates actually are, who knows. So its' more than just a map update.

If I was to upgrade anything on Uconnect, it would be wireless CarPlay. Gives my heads up map plus current music in the same screen. I rarely use the onboard map since I plug in CarPlay now.

Maybe now, at one time they also charged the $150 upgrade or a higher $$$ for a lifetime update... nice to know that its free now (that I don't use it) ?
