For the record, all of this is wrong ... If you dont have low molecular friction oil made from purely organic base stocks from north of the 47th parallel (45th parallel if you are in the southern hemisphere) you can't expect an increase in mileage OR more power ... PERIOD !!!

Regular molecular friction oil (although it creates less wear) does so at the expense of efficiency as the bonding action of the peptide chains hold on to the metals used in modern engines. Normally this goes unnoticed by mere mortals but is easily detected by someone with heightened senses like the OP ... I used to be able to detect this phenomenon in my younger days but years of internet forums and several thousand gallons of single malt scotch have conspired to dull my senses to a point where I too must change my oil at 4000 mile intervals (just to be sure) even though logic, research, science and oprah all clearly agree that I am just plain out of my mind ...

To make my Jeep last longer and also to obtain some mileage and power benefit, I have had to resort to nitrogen in my tires which has yielded 35MPG and 392SRT like power levels ... The difference is so profound that my wife refuses to ride with me anymore although I didn't add the nitrogen until covid hit and I stopped showering ... Not sure if these things are related ..

All of this information is readily available with a few mouse clicks and you can rely on it as it has been curated and delivered to my screen via the magic of places like facebook (a beacon of truth in an uncertain world) ...

It is also good to consider that although all other products have undergone massive R&D and technological advancements in the past 40 years (the most advancement in the history of the world and in the shortest time), that oil has remained unchanged and still the same as it was in 1942 ... Therefore wives tales and old adages must be followed to the letter if your engine is to last past 50k ... Oil color, feel, and the smell (as smelled through the nose of a middle aged jeep guy like me) is the only method by which we can rely on for accurate analysis. Electron microscopes and chemical spectrum analysers be damned !!!

Im off today with nothing to do by the way ....

In general, yes. The on-board oil life indicator should take those variables (along with cold starts) into consideration when it estimates the percent of oil life remaining.

I bet yours is faster after you wash it too...
Damn, so that's why mine has slowed down.....

As Dave would say.......... YUUUUUUUUUUP

I don’t trust that
It's obvious you don't trust science, engineering, math. No wonder we're struggling as a country in STEM areas.

I've found that thing to be quite accurate.

All of this stuff has been around since - well, the first engines with enclosed crankcases (I have some engine that predate that era in my garage in case you wonder how I know about those)

The computer does what people do in their heads - and better. It calculates drives, temperatures, loads and more. It knows things most people don't and does it better.

How do you know it’s quite accurate? It’s a chip so it can malfunction

When you have 2 guys with 150-200k+ miles on their engine, one of which changed oil every 3k miles and the other who changed theirs every 8k miles… who was more right in the end?

(Talks of financial responsibility aside because that’s not what the original thread was about)
