That’s an awesome job all around. I’m also curious about the weight because I’ve only seen mine sag in the rear like that with almost 1k lbs in the bed or pulling a 5k lb trailer.

With all that extra departure angle, I’d look into relocating your exhaust.
I do t think there’s as much sag as it looks like. The new fender flares appear to be lower and smaller than the factory ones, giving it the appearance of sag.

I think that will be the case.

one criticism that I was going to make of the build is that by the way he has done the flares he has severely limited the tyre size. (Not a huge deal as tyre upgrades are more limited legally here than in the US. Where I live it’s 2” increase in height and already have 1” with the GVM upgrade. In all other states the lift increase is even smaller)

One of the first things I noticed was the “notch” at the rear of the cab where the flares would usually be located. That has reduced the size of the wheel arch by a good 3” or 4”.

Build note for anyone going down a similar route.

So here it is complete with the canopy. (6 bolts to take it off)

Very happy with the job, though it will need to go back for a few tweaks when I get back from my trip.

Parking sensors and reversing camera have been incorporated so everything works as it should.

will include detail pics and photos of internal fit out next week.

It would definitely take some work, but it looks like the flare is further from the back than the front, so you could probably have it redone to lengthen it to the front a bit.

G’day all,

been awhile with a lot of travel and Christmas/ New Year, but here are the pics of the internal fit out.

Wasn’t keen on a pull out fridge slide because from experience, with a regular fridge it is difficult to see what’s inside and to reach over. Was originally looking at a drop down fridge slide but the wheel arches were to wide to allow for this. Next was an 65ltr upright, but wasn’t sold on those because after a day of 4wding, figured everything would fall out when you opened the door. Then I found these 20ltr drawer fridges amd decided to go with 2 in a stacked configuration. This also gave me the choice of 1 x fridge & 1 x freezer or two of either. Also have a 45 litre regular fridge if I need more.

Storage drawer with slide out table and small shelf above the fridges pretty much completed the internal fit out. Outside are the two spare wheel mounts and a roof rack. He was meant to add a ladder between the spare wheels, but it was forgotten. Not sure if it will get enough use to warrant the $AUD1k expense to add it.

Have 3 Anderson plugs (main/solar/rear) mounted on the front wall accessible from the rear cab window.

Spent a week making up the power distribution box and wiring up the fridges, invertor and Redarc BCDC charger.

Not finished with it yet. Still need to add and wire up a rear vision camera and connectors for solar panels. And already sick and tired of unlocking the side doors so will automate those.

Doesn’t time fly when you have a Gladiator!

Been a long time since updated, but the fact the car was off the road for a full six months after the last post (a whole other JerrySpringer show!) took a little of the shine off things. But of course, didn’t take long after getting it back that you remember why you love it.

But the last month has seen me have a bit of time to bring the Gladiator up to where I want it to be.

Externally, most noticeable difference is the new shoes. kept the original KM2 rubber, but swapped out the alloys for Moto Metal Link MO977’s in Gunmetal.

Have also installed a fender mounted snorkel (some mods to the plumbing under the bonnet to suit RHD) and mounted the recovery boards on the doors of the canopy.

Also externally on the rear of the canopy I have added a rear light and high mounted brake light as well as removing any question as to what type of car or is when looking at it from behind. On the front of the canopy have added a 7pin trailer plug to carry wiring (ign, brake, etc), plug for solar panels and another panel to plug in Anderson plugs. These have all been done so they can easily be detached for removal of the canopy.

Internally on the canopy, although the “first aid box” PDB did the job, it didn’t do much for the aesthetics and took up a good deal of real estate. So I designed a custom aluminium backboard and installed some of the old, and some new, gauges and switches. The power inlet is for the permanently mounted battery charger and the outlets are wired into the inverter.

Speaking of inverters, the no-name eBay purchase didn’t survive the first decent off road trip and so has now been replaced by a 2000w Renogy mounted vertically behind the draw fridges with a remote on/off mounted in the PDB.

Also behind the fridges is a dual air compressor with power switch also on the PDB.

Yeti cups and stubby holders are great, but never knew where to store them because they take up so much space, so a few lengths of PVC pipes cut to length and mounted on the back wall keeps them out of the way but easily accessible.

Not sure if the 135AH LiPO battery I had was dodgy, but didn’t seem to hold a charge so I have now upgraded to a 300AH one. BIG, but have had no probs since putting it in and the Redarc 1240D keeps it charged. Added a small cash box next to it to keep fuses, USB cables and other small bits and pieces handy.

Finally, what’s a Jeep without a bit of fun? Picked up a “Jeep Knowledge” tin sign up on Wish and have started a brag wall to cover up all that shiny aluminium.

been a long time coming, but it is now very close to the vision I had for it. A few more projects over the next month or two and should be done.

One more thing off the list!

One problem with the pod has always been rear vision. Resolution of the reversing camera of the Gladiator is incredible; but only comes on in reverse which doesn’t help when driving around town, Always had a rear camera and VDU “mirror” but could never get them to work so bit the bullet and bought a new unit.

Have rigged it up to turn on with the ignition so as well as the signal from the rear camera (2k res) it also has a forward facing camera on the back of the unit. The screen can show either or both cameras. But wait, there’s more; The unit has built in wireless CarPlay (transmits to radio head unit via FM), lane departure warning and collision warning features, GPS and acts as a DVR recording from both cameras.

also added a bit of protection from stone chipping to the bonnet. Just a cheap item picked up online, and fits well. Not sure how long the vinyl will last, but at least I will have a pattern to get something made up a little better.
