Hi all, I have a weird issue. I have a pair of the ss3 max LED fogs from diode dynamics. I don't really trust the installer who put them in, because of other issues with other parts they've installed. With that all said here's my issue. Both of my fog lights cut out during auto start/stop. I can start my truck fine and I can turn the fog lights off and on fine, but when I come to a stoplight and the auto start stop sequence begins, the lights cut out as soon as the engine comes back on. When they cut out sometimes it's just the driver side, sometimes it's both. When the lights cut out sometimes toggling the fog lights off and on turn them back on again. Other times I cannot get the fog lights to come back on until I shut off the vehicle.

Does anybody have any idea why my fog lights would cut out when the auto start stop sequence occurs?

Wonder if they put a relay in somewhere and it is not powered when the engine shuts off.

Mmm, idk I'm not mechanically inclined, but the lights go out when the engine starts back up, not when it stops initially.

Ok, with out knowing how they wired it my guess is; the voltage drop when it goes into ass is dropping the lights, then there is a voltage issue the canbus is seeing being they are led vs standard that’s causing them not to come on.

I would call the shop get details how they wired it, like poster above said is there a selonid? Then work from there.

if you had factory leds then the ss3 swap is literally plug and play no wiring to do.

Jeep engineers decided in the computer to have separate halogen and led settings for not only fog lights but for all the lights. So if you are using the oem wiring it’s not sending the right power that you need. Either you need a tuner like a zmotive tazer or go to the dealer to get your computer flashed. This is the more than likely scenario.

the other scenario is that your installer screwed it up and they need to fix it. Start here… the other way will cost you money.
This is my opinion.

I had the factory LEDs before and they had no issue which is what's confusing. Yeah either way I got to have someone look at it it sounds like. Thanks everyone.

I think there's actually a programmer setting for the vehicle's fog/headlight/tail light called "aftermarket" or similar so that the jeep computer just completely stops monitoring the load coming from the lights. Maybe have the shop look into that. If the aftermarket LED fog lights pull a different load than the OEM LED fogs (which is very likely), the jeep will see that load difference and that may be causing the issues.

Great tip! The new lights are much brighter, we'll see what the dealer says :)

Mine have been doing the exact same thing since they were installed months ago. No squirrel chewing as they were doing it since new. My guess is that it is a safety feature as the lights are draining the battery below 11.2 volts during the stop/start cycle. I just wait until I’m on open road and then turn them on.

I just installed yellow @Diode Dynamics SS3 Max fog lights as well and it’s doing the same thing as above. All is fine while driving, they stay on when auto start shuts the truck off and they turn off for a few seconds and then turn on back on after I start driving. Curious what’s going on here. No wiring issues - it’s a super simple and clean install and the factory lights don’t appear to do this. Love the lights but this is weird.

Perhaps @Diode Dynamics will chime in here.

John I love your lights and did talk to customer service. They thought it might be a relay, but it is hard to diagnose over the phone. Obviously I’m not the only one with this problem as someone else has the exact same issue. I do love the lights and I can get them to work when I need them. I might even try the ss5 fogs at some point. Your lights even took a deer strike about 6 weeks ago and survived fine. Certainly better than the plastic bumper and unfortunately the deer. This is the rare instant when a product is not functioning properly, but I have no desire to return it. The light they produce is beautiful. It is a little like being married to a supermodel that you only get to see once a week.
