Aren't these a c-clip axle like older D44's?

That’s how the axle comes out for sure. I’ve had them out. I don’t know how the seal comes out.
We pulled it with a pry bar a d some small hooks and got pretty lucky. Pressed in the new one with a perfectly sized socket and a dead blow hammer

There is a recall for this very issue. Not sure the year model. Mine was still under the 36,000 mile warranty when I had it fixed. Got an email couple months ago about the recall. Pushing 80,000 miles now and no problems. Mine is a 21.

I have 21 eco and had the rear axel replaced around 37k miles along with the fuel pump. They told me they replace the whole axel due to cost of labor; it's cheaper to replace the axel rather the press a seal. I notice the axel leak when rotating my tires (don't trust people not to use power tools and mess up the studs or lugs) and my rim was caked in oil and the surrounding component were also greasy.... Needles to say I didn't rotate until the axel leak was fixed

It could be a coincidence but that's the same type situations I was having a similar noise from my rear end when it needed a diff service. I do have a Max Tow so limited slip in the back. If that helps.

Very interesting, I also have lsd in the rear. I’m gonna have to mount a GoPro down there and see if I can pinpoint the sound, it bugs the crap out of me. With Moab only 6 week away I’m not trying to get stranded out there for something I could have dealt with sooner.

Could just replace it, 30 minutes and $50ish. Worst case you have fresh fluid and didn't fix it.

for those who have had the axle seal recall done, how long did it take to get parts?

I took mine in April and they ordered parts. Still waiting and have followed up a few times.

@JeepCares is this normal? Almost 6 months waiting on parts

When I suspected I had a bad seal, I ordered parts from @allmoparparts and they came quickly.

I had mine fail about a year ago (my21) and replaced. A few months ago. I noticed mine seal failed during a tire rotation. But other than that no noise from brakes or any other indicators outside a visual inspection
