I don't have my hardtop Glad yet but I essentially run that setup on my TJ from spring to fall with a Trektop. It's so nice having the open air, but shelter from the sun. Or rain. (something most shades don't do very well)

The difference in drag between having that roof behind the top of the windshield and not is huge, too, I agree. Very noticable at highway speed. It's the difference between cruising at 70mph in vacuum or 2.5 pounds of boost and dumping fuel...

On the JK I ran like this all the time with just the freedom panels on. It was actually made to run like this in JK with the flip down spacer in the rear of the freedom panels to take up the slack of the rear portion of the top not being there. This allowed the top to fit securely in place without any rattling.

I haven’t tried it yet in the gladiator but I’m sure Jeep didn’t take the function away like the older tops without thinking to run it in this form.

I’m home alone while the wife and kid are in Los Angeles, visiting her sisters.

Got some beautiful Phoenix weather over the weekend. 90,91,91,97.

Stripped everything off and put the freedom panels back on. Makes a massive difference on the freeway! The wind comes from behind you, even when being passed by a semi - the effects are way nicer than being totally nude.

And I don’t get as hammered by the sun. Damn English skin haha.

If you’ve never tried it, give it a go!

Edit: see second picture. You decide which looks worse, Jeep or neck after 30 mins of sun. For those of you in the north east, the sun is the yellow ball in the sky you sometimes see

When I was stationed in AZ for 4 years, one of my fellow airmen who also wasnt from there commented ine day, "I never thought sunshine could he so depressing". True, but damn I do miss it. Though I got the same sunburn on my neck yesterday just from walking for a couple hours.

October is normally when I get fed up of blue skies. It’s nice having weather sometimes. Meteorologists have the easiest job here!

That burn was from a year or so ago. Got a uhaul stuck in the back yard and spent hardly anytime in the full midday sun. It’ll get ya

This has been my fave mode in the JK's I've had. It's basically a hard bikini top. Makes all the difference. Nice looking rig! I was curious if this would still work on the JT (I'm on order and "scheduled") and this answers the question for me

So, you guys got me thinking, as I was planning to take off the top in a few weeks. How about the Sunrider for hardtop? I'm not seeing any issues with running that by itself, with two bolts in each side. I'll just have to un-clip the center clamp.

I don't think anyone has done that yet.

I tried it on this last trip with my sun rider and didn’t really like it. Something about a soft top with no support on the rear made it feel like it was going to come off when open.

Damn, I had to slap some aloe on after seeing that pic. Yikes!

Only been to Phoenix once. It was 106-110 the entire time. I don't know how people do it.
