Sorry, no pics, was focusing on getting into my Jeep!

So we had a nice little ice storm last night, Not just ice, but freezing rain/sleet followed by a drop in temps. Came to find 1-2" of ice around my entire Jeep. Door handle wouldnt budge, had to use a lighter and knock ice off. Yes I had remote started it before hand. Wipers took a lot of work to knock/pry off 2-3" of ice. Whole JT was just one solid block or encasing ice, and breaking/shattering a part didnt really help get the adjacent parts off.

My winch was frozen solid. I had to pour 3-gal of warm water over it to get the ice off. We're talking clutch, line, shackle was frozen to the bumper! Im sure it will re-freeze but at least it wont be inches of ice. I really regret not taking pics

How do you de-ice your Jeep, and more importantly your winches

ETA: it is important to make sure your line is spooled correctly. Water expands when frozen, so your winch line can expand and...pop off the control box

Heated Garage ...
A necessity here, it has been daily high of -28C and low of -38C for a week. Not good for vehicles left outside.

And then, although it doesn’t affect vehicles, there is the wind chill which has the night lows at -45 to -48C. My doggies spend 5 minutes to pee and right back in.

Not proud of the rough solution, but I've been known to spray the exterior of the handles with silicon spray liberally if an ice storm is expected. Much needed in AK, and 75% of the time it works all the time. ;)

Well we supposed to have that weather starting Sunday or Monday here in Houston areas so you know us southerners don't like all that danged cold and freezing rain. I am thinking of throwing my rain gear top over my cab and just leaving it site in the driveway until it warms up again later in the week. Maybe hit the remote start every now and then to let it run a bit.

Bad part is, you can only remote start it twice, then you have to get in and start from inside the cab to get two more remote starts, repeat and repeat.

If you have some blue painters tape and one gallon ziplock bags, tape the bag above the handle and let the bag hang down over handle. If windy then tape bottom of bag also.

Looks stupid, but works.

Hey if it works it doesn't matter. Wife's car is in the garage so I can just let my truck sit until it warms up in reality.

Another thing, either silicone spray, or WD-40 wiped on your door seals will help prevent them from freezing/tearing.

More taxes on some things, less on others. I've lived in a few different states, and for the most part it's worth it.
Sorry, I meant to just say you pay a lot more by living in California. I will say that the only part of Cali I have personally been to for any length of time was San Fran/San Jose and that's the most expensive part.
