I bought a cheap-o universal winch cover. Keeps snow, ice, water, dust, sun off of my synthetic line. I think is was $15-$20 off amazon, definitely a worthwhile buy

Sorry, I meant to just say you pay a lot more by living in California. I will say that the only part of Cali I have personally been to for any length of time was San Fran/San Jose and that's the most expensive part.
i heard this stuff is great on seals, i bought it and never used it yet......too many things to do.Another thing, either silicone spray, or WD-40 wiped on your door seals will help prevent them from freezing/tearing.
Drove out to Santa Monica last week and ate a light picnic lunch on the sand. About 70 degrees, and the sunset was beautiful. Then drove east out Santa Monica Boulevard to La Brea and then south to Pinks for a world famous "Brando" hotdog before heading further east home. Didn't see any ice on the way home.Wait until you visit Santa Monica....
If you can believe the weather forecast, we are in for another week of this stuff.Ice storms suck. But at least this one didn't knock out power. I think it was '03 Lexington had a severe localized ice storm. We were without power for 8 days. That was interesting.
