What's everyone's guess on future engines for the Gladiator?

With the Bronco's engines and other competitors upping the game, what will jeep add or change in the engine line up?

  • V8 maybe in the next 6-12monts?
  • Inline 6 with forced air?
  • Something total different?
  • Any valid ideas?

Sadly I’m not familiar enough to know if it currently has the Gen3 and your just having fun, or if that is indeed the hopeful next gen???

If the later, is there any rumors about it?

we are on the Gen2 motors and the previous one had a good track record, and being a V6 stays within cafe standards. I really don't see a change unless a hybrid or electric version presents itself.

I'm still wishing for 100% electric with direct drive in wheel motors on all 4 wheels

Inline 6 is dead. Never again. For the good. It was a good design for the times but it’s dated.

Electric for sure is on deck.

I’m sure a hemi will be there if the wrangler gets it.

Until then the 3.6 will be the leader with the diesel a runner up. There’s just no need to change this setup yet.

Does Fiat even have an I-6?
I think the best they can do is draw from Ram, and they've done that with the EcoDiesel 3.0 V6. They had to modify the suspension and frame to stuff the 6.4 into the "392" concept Wrangler. I think the 5.7 Hemi would be adequate, but I don't know if there's any difference dimensionally.

But, ya know what else? It needs a bigger fuel tank, no matter what engine is in it!

Inline 5!! Lol I had a 3.5L I5 on my old Colorado. Had a unique sound and had great get up and go. But that engine style is history.

The 3.6 gets me to 75 on the highway as fast as I want. What's a V8 gonna do? Does it go faster than a 3.6 at 75? Not going to be more fuel efficient, is it? Diesels are on the way out for light/medium duty trucks. Once the Democrats get back in, restrictions are going to come at diesels just like they have in Europe. Ten years ago, diesels over there were all the rage. Now not. Would I like some hybrid tech? Sure would. I loved my Volts - had two - a solid vehicle that was awesome quick around town, got great mileage and handled like a go-kart.

I would even welcome a twin turbo for the current V6. I think they have it in the Alfa. Don't need to change engine mounts or trans or crash test results. Seems like an easy fix...just some forged parts, a few more components, and as mentioned before...a bigger gas tank! LOL

They'd need to certify the engine again, but that's not really a big deal. We've already seen built 3.6's, so there's no doubt it can be done. I think that's probably the best way to get performance without hurting fuel economy numbers.

Turbo inline straight 6 has been under development by FCA for a few years now. 3 liters.
