Gas mileage

Please - this is silliness. If you drive downhill at low altitudes you'll always get great mileage. If you drive up hills and mountains a lot you'll get poor MPGs.

So you get 18.5 - 22 MPGs. That's not at all typical and while it's good for you it's hard to believe for most JEEP Gladiator owners.

Maybe for you it's hard to believe. Others with Max tow report the same thing, even in my area. I've posted numerous pics to prove it on my side of it. Rubicon owners in my area report the lower gas mileage same as you guys are saying. So it seems obvious to me that there has to be some kind of difference in setup. Other people on here with Max Tow report great gas mileage as well, that being most in all areas. The majority of Rubicon owners on here are reporting crappy gas mileage, that being in most areas as well.

I also just took a trip to the Virginia Mountains where I documented my 19mpgs. I'm not crazy, it's fact. Driving habits will make a slight difference, not 3-4 MPGs.

I'm fully aware that where you drive makes a difference. It's hilly were I'm at, not flat. I'm a hour from the NC Mountains. I'm not reporting based on driving downhill.

Max Tow Sport was 19-20 combined, 24 on big highway trips. Stock,.

Now that I have 2 inch Mopar lift and 35s, I am down to 17.9 combined and 21 on the big highway. Not bad at all. 4.10s became 3.64s with the 35s. I will regear when someone comes out with an e-locker for this generation Dana's.

That's pretty close to what I'm seeing as well, similar setup. If it stays in this range I'll pass on the regear and I'm not sure how much I would use the lockers to justify them.

There has been something I’ve been wondering about and it might have an effect on gas mileage..

I believe only the Rubicon has the transfer case with a high ratio (sorry can’t remember the ratio or the name!)

Could this gearing have an effect in 2 WD or is it only applicable in 4 WD?

I think it only applies to 4lo and I believe it's 4:1 transfer case for the Rubicon and 2.72:1 for the sports. I'm not sure if it would apply to normal driving habits.

It should only effect the low range mode... But parasitic drag of factory lockers and that might be a part of the dropping of MPG slightly not to forget different rims and tires. I'd not be surprised that Sport /Sport S rims are quite a few lbs less (?) I have no doubt the tires are.... Until everyone changed them. I need to remember to weight a OEM stock tire and rim (Sport S) Just my S.W.A.Guess

I don't have them installed on mine and I'm still getting at least 18 average. Most of the time slightly higher. I do still have the plastic skid on the bottom installed

Good because I’m taking mine off first thing when I pulls into my driveway. It looks easy enough, and I even have a Dremel for the job. How long did the trim take you?

My other option is getting the stock rubicon fender... which I would like to do if the price is right.

Not long, maybe 45 minutes. I removed mine and trimmed it with snips I had and then put it back on. The bottom part covers the foglights and I didn't want to completely remove it. It Took longer to take them off than it did to trim them. I agree, they do nothing for the look of the Jeep.

I am up from a low of 11.8 with heavy 34’s and an un-flashed ECM to a just-filled-up 16.6 after flashing the ECM and installing a Pedal Commander. MaxTow so 4.10’s. All city...well, suburban driving . I always turn the ESS off and it is pretty flat around here.

I always run with the ESS off as well. I may start turning it on in stop and go traffic though if I think I'm.going to be in it for more than 20 minutes

Are we seeing anyone with a Rubicon post decent mpgs?

Any rubicon owners, bone stock or otherwise, what are getting?

New Rubicon JT and was wondering about others mileage. Traded a JLU manual in for this and am getting about 4 miles less on the JT. Does having a tonneau cover help with mileage? Or is the JT Rubicon going to get about 14 per gallon?

It's 500 lbs. heavier, longer, has deeper standard axle gearing and less slippery in the wind. Yes, you're going to see reduced mileage.

Tonneau can hurt actually because you're removing the negative pressure area in the bed. Myth Busters I think did some episodes on that topic.

If you want to pick up a little MPG, remove those heavy Falken tires and switch to something P-rated and more lightweight. It'll shock you how much you'll pick up.
