Gas mileage

Question. What is your driving style and where are you driving? Are you exclusively driving on the highway? I've gotten a new 2021 Overland and in the first 500 miles, it is averaging about 15.4 MPG. Mine is mostly around town with some interstate daily.

I will say that after switching over to rubicon tires and wheels, the mileage changed a lot. I am typically a mostly suburbs driver, limited highway, not a lot of stop and go. With my driving style I am averaging 17-18 in the Overland with the Rubicon wheels and tires.

Something I have had happening as of last oil change..
Normal I average 23.7 MPG except after getting a dealership oil change then it drops for a few fill ups to 20-21 MPG. Now the surprise I got with 3rd oil change my MPG dropped off to 19-20 for next 1850 miles then I started getting crazy good mileage until I got stuck in traffic dropping it back to 22.7-23.2 MPG I was pushing past 33-35 plus MPG for about 50 miles or so. WTH ??? and no I wasn't coasting down Pikes Peak.
Vehicle specs and details... 20 Sport S Max-Tow stock AT tires 37-43 psi. The speedometer reads .6-1 MPH faster than actual speed at 42 psi tire pressure. After market bumper, winch and probably 400-550 lbs of stuff plus my old fat a##. I keep a logbook of fuel added and oil change ect.
Now another oddity last fill up I decided to see how much more fuel I could add after the pump kicked off... 3.5 gallons and I could feel air being pushed out of the tank on hand. Gauge of mile range went to 465 miles range (I think that is it's highest number programmed??) and stayed there for 108 miles. I got to work last night over 180 miles driven on the last fill up and 365 miles range left on gauge. So I'll have got over 500 miles on a tank. "I'll fill up at 100 plus miles left" though.

I got 17.2 mpg avg yesterday on a 300 mile trip around alabama yesterday. This is with 37’s, lift, 4.88’s etc.

Keeping it under 70mph helps a ton.

You have the best mileage I've ever heard of from a gas JT. Your ride sounds like a diesel. I'm still in the burn-in stage with my truck. I'm less than 2000 miles.

I'll be at 24000 miles shortly, my drive to work and home is 107-110 miles. Mix of gravel, county, hwy and I-State roads with hills and semi flat strips. I have track. I have thought about the advantage of the D.F. JT vs gasoline JT.

Gas normally I was getting about 23 plus lately 22.4 to 23. Partly due to temperature and weather, I think. Colder weather I've been getting less MPG.

I have been able to push my MPG up past 27 MPG last summer driving. If I'm driving at 40 MPH my mileage is lower than if I'm driving 46-48 transmission don't like to shift up until 45 plus. Then to keep top speed at 68-69 mph max I can hold up to 30 MPG average and temperature in 60s to 80s or so.

A photo of from August after I gassed up and driving home. I figure I am spending 3/5 on fuel that I was. Yes I could have gotten a more fuel efficient vehicle but I've got a better chance of survival in a crash with this. A lot more people don't want to hit a vehicle expensive vehicle. At 6' plus tall it sucks in small vehicles! the Jeep Renegade is made for us tall people, I almost got one a year or so before. A few days before it was to be delivered I backed out.. thankfully.... then the JT's came out.

Okay, i don't get this at all. I understand that there are many different driving styles and areas all over the US and Canada will be different, but how in the world can the same vehicle range from 24mpg to 12 mpg? I can understand if you were flooring it off of every stop sign and red light and lived in Colorado then driving it like an 80yr old in the MidWest or in the Prairies...but that would effect like 5 to 6 mpg's right? Or am I completely wrong here?

Drive-for-mpg on a flat highway at 55 mph with no wind, and with p metric all seasons and 3.73 gears? 24 mpg easily.

Your right, I’m getting a little better, on the flats yesterday and got over 50 mpg, but I was only going 52 mph.

I must be doing something wrong. No where near 30 mpg. . . . .

What I have learned by trying is to use the select shift was, try to keep RPM less than 1500.
Actually the best was at 1100 RPM.
The neat thing is the select shift will down shift on its own, so the rising RPM limit is in your control

We have a 2020 Rubicon, stock. Using 87 cheapest fuel.

Select will allow take off in 2nd gear.
Doing the select shift all the time keeps the driver tack watching but you will not be able to lower the RPM less than 1100 by much before a little ''shift not allowed'' sign pops up on dash.

Don't suggest anyone do this type of driving while others are following you.
There may be some ''pointed'' gestures as they steam pass you.

Driving a bread box down any road has air drag limits. But this is one fun truck to drive...just ask my wife.

So your getting 30 mpg going 69 mph?

I was and a anomaly that I could not understand at the time. My MPG had been post oil change lower (about 19- 20 MPG) for about 1850 miles then after a fill up I was driving in to work I started getting this crazy high MPG. Then I got stuck in traffic. After that tank of gas I figured out my MPG by hand and I averaged 27.222 MPG over 300 plus miles.

first pic is at 60mph/7th gear/18mpg
Second is at 65mph/6th gear “stays in 6th unless there is a tailwind”/ 15mpg

With 3.73’s / Mopar lift / 315 70 17’s

Getting 2-3 mpg less now that it got cold. Was getting 18 in town, now 16. A little less on the highway. BTW, mainly flat land in town. Any idea why in cold weather?
