This sounds a little sketch, like they're going to wait until the exact gladiator that you custom ordered is sitting in front of both of you before negotiating a price? They're hoping you'll be a sucker, IMO. You've gotta nail down at least some of the pricing details sooner rather than later.

My closest dealer tried to tell me that they couldn't go below invoice, and that they would get in trouble if corporate found out they showed me the invoice price.

The buying process is such a PITA. I mean I like that this forum gives me access to some good advice and discounts, but it would be so much easier if it was a transparent process.
Watch “your” truck come in without a “couple features” yeah dude. If it isn’t exactly what you want at a price you like then bail. Sounds Shifty.

No contract, no money, no deal. The $1000. For what? What is there risk they need to protect with $1000. When do you get the vin?

They’re not wrong, but there’s almost always a $1500 rebate on Sport trims, though they do change monthly. I made sure I had a base price of 5% off invoice, plus 1% for having an FCA control number before going forward. Good idea to join Tread Lightly for that extra 1% discount. You’ll need to have membership for at least 30 days before the discount will apply.
THANK YOU for reminding me about Tread Lightly. I kept forgetting to sign up and because of you I just did. Now let's say I get them to agree to 6% and THEN provide the control number. Does that automatically bring it down to 7% or do I need to give that first and then ask for more off?

When I called and talked to them again today today specifically mentioned doing it this way so the customer can inspect the vehicle before actually agreeing and haggling over price. Either way it'll be 5% at the most or I'll wait another 6 weeks for a different dealership.

Already gave me the VIN. I agree about the risk as the process did seem odd. If I back out then I get my check back and they keep the truck on the lot to sell to someone else. Either way I got it in writing now so my concerns are taken care of now.

It’s an additional 1% off of invoice, so in that scenario, yes. If they are a good dealership. For issues I’ve run into trying to purchase new Jeeps specifically, be sure they show invoice, not just MSRP and make certain they aren’t trying to double dip on the $1495 destination fee. It’s IN the MSRP, but shady dealerships will often add them a second time.

You guys are legitimately the best community I've been involved with. Thank you so much for giving me this info all day long. If you guys are ever in the Omaha, NE area let me know and I'll buy you a beer.

You got a Vin, you good!

I shopped for 9 months. I still have a reservation for a Bronco. I was all over the map; Wranglers, Rams, F150, Silverado. Hell even the other mids; Ranger, Bison, TRD. The dealerships all over SoCal all played games. And I kept coming back to the JT. I love the Gladiator.

I Got lucky with a good dealer. Got about 5% below invoice, on a late model 2020. Really there is no difference 2020 to 2021 but automatice 4h. In SoCal that is a good deal.

I say all that to say. If you end up with the right rig under your butt it’s all worth it. I smile every time I drive my “Bessie”

Welcome in advance!

My dealership specifically said they do the pricing/financing once it's on the lot that way they can apply the most current deals and incentives. I had to give a 1k check in good faith to actually place the order but they don't cash it until it's actually mine.
That's shady af....makes no sense and they're already playing games. Get out if you can! Call Kent at Peterson and get 8% off invoice no games where you actually sign off on a price sheet before you order.

Good luck

I would suggest you consider the "other fees" also. Sometimes they will jack those up for their profit. Unless there is legitimately a state law that requires more, my opinion is that $75 to $100 in fees other than tax, title, and license is a rip-off. My dealer charges $100 doc fee period. Nothing else.

Check out the dealer in Storm Lake, IA. He's on this forum. I was going to order with him, but then family loyalty got the best of me so I ordered through a family member. They got close enough to call it good after accounting for the time and expenses driving up to get it from KC, but still not as good of a deal as Storm Lake would have done.
