Man, I swear since Covid, everyone has started running reds all over the country. I don't remember it being as bad pre-covid, and now every single light I'm at has 2 or 3 cars running a red right as it turns red.

Sorry it happened to you. I finally just invested in a dashcam after a few close calls from red light runners.
Glad the people are ok

Since COVID, no one cares, all over...got cut off the other day and the person honked at me, telling me I was in the wrong because they had a blinker on (their drive window was just in front of my front bumper and to the right)

I would have had to see through my hood to see the blinker....still doesn't give the right of way just because the blinker was on. where are these common road test rules??

I thought it was put on blinker, check rear mirror side mirror and then shoulder check, maybe I'm old school and care about me and others, lol

So far the total is around $15k in damages, still waiting on the frame measurement check so they might find more damage. I work in the automotive industry and found out the shop is owned by a co workers family so I have some piece of mind if it is not deemed total loss it will be fixed correctly. The shop is Lexus and BMW certified also.

One tip- when I got the truck 2 years ago I soaked the frame and all metal parts with CRC corrosion inhibitor, the owner of the shop called and said they have never seen an under carriage so clean and rust free after 2 Midwest winters and said it looks like it was never driven even with 14k miles. I think this helped to show them how serious I am about maintenance and overall care of the truck and they are being extra through with the inspection. sounds like if damages exceed $25k it might be deemed a total loss. Should know more in the next 24 hrs.

Sorry for your accident !! Definitely check axle, tubes and rear housing As others have said. I would hit them up for accident depreciation Also If possible? The accident wasn’t your fault and if carfax and internet get ahold of it, it will deprecate the value some unfortunately.

CRC Marine heavy duty corrosion inhibitor is what I used. Seems very similar to fluid film, leaves a clear coating which some dust sticks to, power washer with soap just beads up and leaves the coating intact.

I got in a similar accident about a year ago. I was hit on the passenger front wheel. They replaced my frame, front axle, wheel, and a few other pieces.

All in all it took 7 months to get it back. I feel like half of that was the shop wasting my time, the other was legitimate waiting on parts. Call the "Jeep Cares" hotline if you need to expedite part delivery - that actually seemed to free up parts that were "on indefinite back order".

The total cost to repair was over $32k.

We help sellers get multiple offer for their car in as little as one business day.
First major accident this morning, driver ran the light and I was able to avoid a hit to the cab and the right rear and wheels took a hit from around 40mph. Everyone is OK and walked away fine. Obviously I am concerned about possible frame damage, anything else I should look for when the shop prepares the estimate? They will be doing frame measurements tomorrow, more concerned about any possible long term issues assuming I will have to take the truck back post repair…

Glad to hear everyone is okay. That's the important thing. Hopefully, everything can be fixed. Is that first pic the other guy? Seems like they got the worst of it.

very similar situation….homie ran a red and hit me. I had extensive frame damage. Took it to a shop that does chassis work for race cars. Frame was replaced and everything is as good as new. I had a body shop do the rest of the work.

don’t take no for an answer from your insurance company or the at fault company.

and don’t forget about diminished value. Not only did I have mine fixed… I walked away with a very heavy check.

the Mojave is now my dedicated beach rig and I used the diminished value check as a down payment on another vehicle
What was the process of getting that diminished value check like? DId you have to jump through a bunch of hoops?

Kinda … had to prove the value before accident and value of anything added on. Then they attempted to lowball twice so I mentioned attorney and they quickly agreed to my states maximum payout.

I did end up using an attorney that specializes in diminished value. They changed a $300 fee upfront and $300 at end. But, if I lost or got nothing, the $300 was refunded so to me.. it was a win win

As much as it sucks for this to have happened to you, if that frame is tweaked in any way I wouldn't want the truck back.

I'd be pushing for a write off just for the peace of mind.

Thank you for sharing, interested to hear what the damage was. At a glance the JT looks fairly good compared to the other guy. Most importantly, happy to hear you are ok.

Shop said they will have the work done late June / July. Just pulled the trigger on a new black overland, picking it up tomorrow. I was able to get it for $1k below invoice with the $3k jeep cash and my supplier code along with some negotiation -also helped it had been on the lot for a bit and it’s month end. Need the truck to haul my fishing boat and other toys :). They said no frame damage, but with $15k in driveline and suspension damage I don’t believe other areas won’t be impacted as it ages. Once the truck is repaired I’ll be selling it with full disclosure of the damage done and documented repairs made. For someone that would want to add their own suspension and other mods it could be a nice deal, for me I just prefer to leave them stock. Agree with everyone else at this point I’m glad we are both OK and life will move on.

Sorry the accident happened. Too many bad drivers out there and we build our nice vehicles only to have them damaged sometimes by the reckless and careless. I was rear ended back in November while sitting still in traffic. Vehicle behind me got hit. No injuries, but destroyed the SUV behind me and the front of the Ram truck that hit him. Thank God for the steel bumper on the Glady. Still had scratches on the bumper and dings in the tail gate from that cheap plastic on the front of the SUV. Even the firemen and police that responded were like "damn, that's one tough vehicle to take an impact like that".

So SF assumed fault for the insured party and the damage was repaired at a cost of $3,000+. I am now in the process of a DV claim. Obtained carfax reports before the accident report was filed and then after for a basis. Now waiting on a report from TigerDV. I asked the SF rep about a DV claim and she feigned ignorance. "I don't know what a diminished value claim is and I can't help you with that"... I'm just going strait to court once I have all the evidence packaged. I'm not an attorney, but I am ex-LE and represented the US Gov't in court over 20+ years in both crim and admin law?

My experience is you have to fight the insurance companies every step of the way. Unfortunately the ball is always in their court so to speak.

the bigger pain is dealing with the insurance companies during the aftermath.
granted…it’s been a while, but I’ve never really had an issue with an insurance company. When my TJ was mooshed, the adjuster was talking repair. I told him that if he was comfortable having a short wheelbase vehicle repaired that ā€œdiamondedā€ the frame and what the repercussions would be if after the repair it was jacked or created an unstable vehicle…he stopped me there and said I’ve been a long time customer and said he felt all parties would probably just better off totaling it. I said you’re probably right. But it really was not a knock down drag out. Not to mention two engineers from Detroit flew down to Texas to try and identify why the airbags didn’t deploy they saw that the battery bracket bolt went right through the computer so they could not use it for an analysis. Funny thing is five months later, the vehicle had a new title it was clean and not a recondition…. One of the reasons why I don’t purchase used vehicles anymore. It’s not worth the loss of peace of mind to me.

Thats not a bad deal. Sounds frustrating to have to get an attorney just to get what you needed, but ultimately, a wise choice on your part. Thanks for the info.
