Hey Guys,

I was scrolling through facebook earlier and noticed someone had either created this themselves or purchased the kit, but I think they called it the "Flip Flop" mod

basically the front part of the hardtop was hinged in a way where it allowed the front hard top to rotate back .... on top of the rear part hard top and secured.

Has anyone seen this?

Thanks,

I've seen a few vendors at Bantam this year and last selling kits. I have a painted roof so I didn't have much interest in it..

Is it that hard to just remove the panels and put them in the bag into the bed?

This mod seems rather useful actually. One of the reasons I ended up getting the bestop sun rider was the freedom panels. If you are traveling and have the bed full, its rather tough to find a good spot for storage. I was reading that the top on the upcoming gladiators will be multiple pieces that create a bed cover?

The Trukkfab.com hinge looks much nicer than the other hinges I've seen that looked like repurposed barn door strap hinges.

I have a painted top and don't know if I'd do it. But if I had a black top I'd consider it with these fairly sophisticated custom fit hinges.

One of the things I'd want to see first is some video of the top closing and what it does to the weather-stripping close to the hinge.

The stripping out by the windshield will be making contact in a nice linear way and should not be a problem. Close to the hinge, it will make contact and then be pulled laterally in the process of closing. Not sure how that may impact things. It may not be a problem. It may cause weatherstripping failure after a couple of years. I'm speculating, and a video would eliminate my concern. But it may be something to consider.

I had never seen anything like that before. It's interesting. That said I'm pretty sure I like my Sunrider a lot better than I would like having to flip the Freedom Panels back. I don't have to pull over and get out to open it or to close it when the rain starts. I can just slow down to 25 mph, reach back over my head, and close it.
