Gladiator Won't Shut Off?!?

My buddy's 2020 Gladiator 3.6 Auto wouldn't shut off. He had to disconnect batteries to stop it.

Anyone experience this? What the hell? I've never heard of this before.

Any help is appreciated. He's letting it sit for an hour before reconnecting and trying again.

Both batteries are maybe 6 months old.

Yes. He's digging it out.

He reconnected and everything is working. Shut off fine.

OK, ,batteries maybe 6 months old - were they fully charged first? Are they fully charged now? What's the voltage?
Is the N3 fuse blown?

And you very well may blow the alternator or regulator that way!

That bit of disconnecting a battery on a running vehicle dates into the generator era and can be very destructive for vehicles with alternators (these Jeeps handle things differently, but it's still a big risk to certain components! Best to pull a fuse for the fuel injection or ignition. Pulling battery cables can literally blow things. I've repaired a few alternators after people did that, and I've seen people have to go buy new regulators)

Know what fuse handles the fuel injection or ignition and pull one of those - don't risk your electronics.

I have pictures of diodes blown to bits by pulling a battery cable on a running vehicle.

If there a bunch of random codes , loss of CANBUS, etc. It's a good possibility it's the green canbus connection block (aka Star connector) in the glovebox is the issue. Had the same couldn't shut off issue with a bunch of codes.

I will be talking to him again in the morning. He said he let it sit for awhile then reconnected and restarted and it stopped then as it should.

He did say that while it was running, he got out with the key fob then got back in and that is when it would not shut down. He tried pushing the key fob on the start/stop button and that did not work.

He apparently charged the batteries while they were disconnected. I also recommended putting new batteries in the key fobs.

He was going to get his code reader, but I´ve not talked to him since he checked it.
I will report back when I speak to him.

Well, I think he was panicking a bit when he did it. I´ll let him know to find one of those fuses.

I forgot to tell him that I left mine running accidentally at a museum for 5 hours. No harm. Just made me really pissed at myself.

Damned computers.
I guess all the battery failures would make sense if the charging system doesn't have enough power to keep the thing running. Or if they stupidly designed in a kill switch so a battery failure guarantees no spark.
Or maybe whatever he did disconnected battery AND alternator?

I really don´t know. He was on the phone. I wasn´t there. He just said he disconnected the batteries. I will get more details when I talk to him and will report back.

Ok, he said he pulled the fuel pump fuse and then it stopped. Then he disconnected the batteries.

Everything seems to be working except his back up cam now.

The camera will come back on. I’ve had this happen when I’ve had my batteries out. Sometimes it takes a couple hours, other times, it’s back up and running the next day.
