Yes you are correct in that the computer heads mount to the face of the wheel, but you have to perform a runout calibration by rotating the wheel for that method to be accurate. It's not as simple as just trusting that the wheel runs out true.......Correct but even in a shop with a rack and laser alignment system, you are still gauging off the face of the rim anyway
