I took delivery of my 2022 in January and the front windshield cracked without a rock chip. Just driving down a side street @ 10 mph and it just cracked. To me it looks like a stress crack dealer doesn't

want to cover it. Any idea how to get jeeps or gorilla glass's attention?

GG is designed to deflect and absorb more than standard glass which is how it withstands hits better in the middle but that's basically on the adhesive. Edge hits are the worst case when it comes to a windshield and you typically aren't getting away without a crack. Just had mine replaced yesterday from a hit to the driver side edge after it survived three others in the middle.

You can see the little dot on the crack which is indicative of a hit at some point. Cracks aren't always immediate so it's likely you took a hit and some stress caused it to splinter when you saw it go. That impact point is in the black so you wouldn't have seen it from inside.

I thought my stock glass was just a crack until a thorough cleaning and a flashlight and magnifying glass revealed a teeny chip that started it all..............

I'm obviously not there for a personal look and can only go by a picture - but take a VERY close look at this with a white flashlight and a magnifying glass - Maybe it's a RESULT of the crack, dunno, but the glass shop will be looking closely at it.

And this - ↑↑↑

Absolutely. As a person who has done restoration involving removing and putting glass back, and salvaging glass from vehicles I was parting out - you get the smallest nick on the edge and you just stop trying to salvage it and it's history. If it hadn't cracked then, it will. You tap the edge with a tool and it's done. The edge is a stress point on windshields.

I was changing the wiper blades on the wife’s JL and let an arm slip down onto the glass without having the blade on. I thought for sure it was going to be windshield #2 in 1 year. Somehow I escaped cracking it.

I’m sorry man, I know the feeling mine has too, you’d think the GG would be so much better than the stock and yet it seems to crack just as easily too.

Looking for some wood to knock on right now, but I put Racing Optics film on my standard glass windshield and it has survived several rock hits. I can't say scientifically it was the film or luck, but adding laminate to glass certainly increases it's ability to survive hits.

The downside is any film scratches over time, but I've had film on two vehicles now. The first was clearplex and it lasted 6 years. The racing optics on the Gladiator is a harder film and scratches easier than the Clearplex, but has layers you can peel off and the cost is half as much.

You think they actually make their own glass and windshields??

Can be due to many factors.
I replaced mine with an OEM windshield from MOPAR (not that they make them) and it's survived hits harder than the original, and yet they are the same source. same part number.

sad thing is I've been through 3 OEMs and haven't driven down a dirt road once...

Dirt typically doesn't crack windshields. The mere fact of being on a dirt road doesn't endanger your windshield. But, if you're driving down a dirt road fast and close enough to someone that they fling stones onto your truck, you're way too close and are risking damage.

Highway rocks and debris are the real culprit. At higher speeds they really can do some damage, regardless of manufacturer.

3 OEMS is ridiculous though man... I guess it's merely just because of how the Jeep is designed

MOPAR WINDSHIELD MADE WITH CORNING GORILLA GLASS WARRANTY Mopar Windshield Made with Corning Gorilla Glass has a 2-year limited (from date of install), unlimited-mile warranty, which provides for labor and parts needed to repair or replace your windshield under certain conditions. Mopar warrants your windshield from damage associated with road debris such as pebbles or other small objects which may cause initial damage larger than a US quarter (1 inch/25mm) and less than 3 inches/7.6 cm. Larger instances or smaller blemishes, along with the subsequent cracking that may be caused by not repairing them, are not covered by this warranty. Dealer requires proof of purchase and windshield will only be repaired or replaced under the warranty once within the warrantable period. WHAT IS NOT COVERED: Damage caused by any other force such as an accident, large debris, fraud, falling objects or other acts of God are not warrantable. The damage from road debris referred to in this section is warrantable notwithstanding other provisions in the Mopar warranty. Additional exclusions may apply.

That's Mopar's warranty. If you read more of it, you'll see that Mopar warranties do not apply to factory installed items because those are covered under the factory warranty. Mopar's warranty is therefore not usable because the windshield is already covered by someone else's warranty (to prevent double-dipping). Factory installed windshields carry a shorter Jeep warranty. The Mopar warranty only applies to those installed third-party like a glass shop.

Carlex makes OEM windshields for many major auto makers - meaning the windshield in your Chrysler product or GM may have come from them.
Ford sold a glass company they held several years ago - ACH, I believe it was.

Anyway - I've put a lot of miles on a lot of various vehicles. Some have had multiple hits, some have gone years and miles without a crack. My silverado had no cracks, and I only recall minor tiny chipping - the sandblasting effect. And yet my JT had a break in the first year and this one is OEM - complete with the Jeep in the corner, and it's got a ton of tiny little dings that sparkle in the sun and look like dirt sometimes from the outside, but no cracks. Why one and not the other? Who the heck knows! Both are MOPAR part numbers. Only MOPAR can sell a windshield with the Jeep in the corner due to copyright laws.
There's no "Jeep glass is cheap junk" to it. This isn't new science or technology and at least in the old days you could eventually find out the exact company that made the glass in your car or truck (usually not the auto maker even if it was BMW)
