Do you have to connect wires to the engine like with the Banks derringer because I'm selling my banks tuner because I'm tired of having to remove it when I go in for service

Best thing to do is purchase a spare ECU and have the dealership program it. Then send one of them for tuning and keep the other for dealer visits. Personally I'm waiting for a flash tool.

Yeah that's what I was thinking about it,I'm just scared in a way that I feel like they will catch on and make myself look suspicious kinda, but as long as they don't put it under my name or phone number

Unless you have the stock unit and a modified unit that are swapped out for every dealer visit, they will know. If they start looking, they will figure it out because the stored data will be inconsistent.

A 'Good' dealer will overlook it, but will likely tell you any engine issues won't be covered under warranty. The response from other dealers will vary from just denying warranty coverage to trying to void the whole warranty.

Something like this I would not even consider until the warranty period is over.

what stored date will be in there ?
i would be keeping the stock Ecu stock and buying another one thats simply tuned with the DGE tune, and wont any data that they put in the stock unit would remain stored in the stock unit and the tuned one just be untouched by the dealer for obvious reasons ?

the have key switch counters, rev counters, over rev counters and many more

if you ever purchase a 911 have it checked for over revs , I’ve seen stories of dealer not wanting cars because of this counter

It may not matter, and dealers usually don't go looking unless there's an issue. I don't know what data is stored, but a thorough review of it would show something is not quite right.

If you did this would the dealer never know for warranty reasons?

From understanding, and when I was a mechanic, hard flashes such us updates from dealer, gde tune, or anything that rewrites the ecu will leave a "footprint". Dealer will kno if it's in house or not, then deny warranty if it's not in house. Units like Derringer are more piggy back, they take in the signal, up or lower it to gain the desired performance, and send it back to ecu or component being "deceived" to attain the desired performance, thus, no footprint other than "what's this device?".

I see where the EcoDiesel Owners Canada tunes that a lot of guys run are now available to be purchased on a pre-tuned ECU. Which means you buy the tune from them and they send it to you already on a separate ECU. You then have your factory stock ECU to keep for dealer visits, and you don't have to go through the hassle of buying an ECU and trying to get your dealer to clone it for you. FANTASTIC option.

I wish GDE would consider doing this.

Lol, so you just walk in to the dealer and ask them to program a blank ECU? Love to hear how that would go, and would you tell them you are swapping ECUs when you need warranty work or what?
