So... I searched and can't find anything on this.

Stock battery is a Group 48, the upgraded battery that comes with Aux Switches and possibly other options is a group 94R. Dimensions:

CODES INCHES MILLIMETERS
L W H L W H
Group 94R Battery H7 LN4 12.4375 6.9375 7.5
Group 48 Battery H6 LN3 11 6.9375 7.5

Only difference is length but 1.5" could be substantial.

Do Jeeps with the upgraded battery have a bigger/different tray or will a 94R fit right into a Jeep with the "regular" Group 48 battery?
Hey did you ever find out if a 94R fits? If so, which one did you go with?

What amp hour rating and/or CCA ratings are the stock batteries in these beasts?

For the AGM version (AC Delco and Duracell brands), Group 48(H6) is 760cca and 94R(H7) is 850cca.
So looks like one is 70 amp hour (the group 48) and the other 80 (94R)

And the aux battery?

The ESS battery is a Group 400 (AUX14) and is 200cca. So far, Advanced Auto Parts seems to be one of the better places to pick up a non-OEM replacement (Diehard).

My Overland has the largest alternator with the tow package. No aux switches.
The battery measures 11" in length.
What can happen with things like batteries is that they may have had to order them from more than one source, too. As long as the battery meets minimum specs, it's possible. (this will be especially true in the last year or two)

OTOH, it does make sense to have a slightly larger battery with the aux switches assuming they'd be running more of a load when shut down. Otherwise, there's no reason to have a physically larger battery with not a huge difference in capacity over-all just because of switches.
The only time the battery comes into play is when the engine isn't running as the alternator would keep up with the load. Their goal is to run everything from the alternator and the batteries just sit there lookin' pretty. (as long as the engine is running, that is)

I checked my HA diesel last night. Tow package and the big alternator, no switches. It has a 48 and spacer. When it eventually dies I’ll put a 94 in.
