Has anyone re-geared their Overland?

Has anyone re-geared their JT Overland? Is the re-gear for an Overland the same parts for the Rubicon? I know the Overland has a 32 spline axle and the lockers will be different. Just wondering if the gears are also different.

The gear sets ARE different between the Rubicon (and max tow package) axles and the regular Sport and Overland axles. The Rubi and MT have the AdvanTek axles which utilize a smaller 220mm ring gear, whereas the regular Sport and Overland have a 226mm ring gear.

All gladiators have the same axles front and rear which are dana 44’s. Using the same gear sets. Reach out to northridge4x4 or Quadratec and they’ll give you some further info I’m sure.

I know the JL rear 44 for sport and Rubicon are both 32 spline so I’m sure the JT is too. Dunno about the front but I’d say yeah probably same just no locker and narrower width.

The Rubicon versions have lockers inside and are wider.

226mm? That is Jk diameter. All JL and JT 44’s are the 220mm or advantek size.

Yeah i just picked my Overland up yesterday 32 spline M210 front & M220 rear they used the same carrier & track-lock limited slip, from 373 i had. I went 5.13 drives beautiful. Still going through break in.

no Dealer i used 249 drive train in Houston , he used Dana Spicer gears. he does gear changes for a lot of dealers 30+ years. did a great job.

Thank you for this. I found info on the Dana Spicer site that said the carrier break for the m210/m220 is at 3.07 down and you’ve confirmed for me.

It’s really valuable when people report personal experience. Especially when speculation and misinformation are so plentiful on the internet.

a lot of mix up on JT Dana 44 axle with JK Dana 44 they are very different

Are you running the auto or manual transmission? I ordered a manual and am planning on increasing tire size which is why I’m prepping to re-gear and I was planning on 4.88s. From what I’ve read a re-gear is a good idea even without changing tire diameter with the manual trans. My truck won’t be here until December so it would be nice to get the opinion of someone that isn’t a solid axle hating automotive writer.

No I have the 8Auto. Definitely like the gearing though. My 373 gears did not like the 35" tires at all. Now better than stock with 35's. If your on Flat land and do easy to moderate offroad, then leaving it stock with 35's would be fine. If slightly hilly to mountainous where you live and moderate to difficult offroading, definitely re-gear.

I’ll go for the re-gear for sure then. I’m in Western Colorado and am frequently on long, steep mountain passes. I’m planning on toning down my off-road style to better suit family life but may still go a little hard sometimes. Thanks for your input!! I’m very impressed with this forum.
