HELP! Removing the rear and side interior panels…

I’m trying to install some Killmat on the floor and rear sides of my truck but for the life of me I can’t seem to figure out how to remove the back and rear side plastic panels…

Anyone have any info? I’ve removed all the screws I could find..

Stupid question, but have you tried taking the roof off? The bolts holding on the top seem to be long enough that they might secure the top of the rear panels. It's a bit of SWAGing but it might just work.

Not a stupid question at all.

I thought the same thing but in looking closely the plastic back panel is not connected by those bolts. there is actually a bit of wiggle at the top of the panels...not much but some.

My next step would be to remove these just to see if I find any more clips or screws

I’d be curious to know myself. I plan to fish an antenna wire through the back but don’t know where to start.

So I just pulled all my interior plastic pieces off. Once you have all the screws, small, panels etc and what not off then it is just a matter of being super careful and push/pull the panel in towards the middle of the jeep. Very very carefully. Jeep has put lots of plastic pins and things to hold the panels to the side.

the rear is another story. It is the same way remove any "access" panel and screws etc and then pull towards the inside of the jeep. I could not get my rear panel off without breaking it. The worst part about the rear is the top section. There are some very sturdy 7 or 8 pins across the back and top that hold it in place.

the lower "tray" on the drivers side panel should be unscrewed and taken off as well.

I had to buy another one from and they are like 230 dollars or so.

The green areas are attachment points for the rear.

Just broke 5/6 of the top ones. Impossible not to. I'm thinking about using double velcro back there instead of buying new. What a bitch.

Has anyone figured out a way to remove the rear trim behind the back seat without breaking the top clips? Seems like this should be a serviceable part.

I'll add my two "cents" in case it helps someone in the future. What we are missing here is the order of operation. I needed access to the rear wall as I wanted to punch in a grommet for a GMRS Antenna. I was trying to remove the rear quarter panel and ultimately discovered that if you are planning on removing any of the rear trim panels the rear panel on the back wall must be removed first. And yes, you will probably break some of the top clips. There are no screw fasteners on any of the panels other than the rear storage tray. (1) First the rear panel must be removed/pried from the rear wall ... you'll need to pull hard on this and it pretty much sucks. (2) Second you need to remove the lower storage tray. (3) Once the lower tray is removed you can now remove the rear quarter panels. The panels are held in place by a captive fastener that engages with steel pin/posts off the body panels. These require some reasonable force to disengage.

I spent the better part of a day removing the rear interior ... and it was basically due to the lack of information on the order in which these panels need to be removed. Hope this helps.

I just learned that this past weekend. The problem I have is that the Chrysler dealer cannot tell me what the part number is for the captive fasteners. Someone wouldn’t happen to have that part number with they?

I don't know the part number either but broke a bunch on mine too. Fortunately, I had enough left to reattach the panel and don't have any noises and it still seams solid.

I don't think you can get the pins separately from the dealer.

I know this is an old post, but this for anybody searching this…

Jesus Christ you guys seriously. Pulling the rear panel is super easy. Took me three minutes and I didn’t break or lose a clip.

So to start use clip tools. A set of them is like $12 at Amazon. I used two little pry tools that came with my set, they look like this.

The back panel is on top, meaning you don’t have to pull side panels. The pic that I swiped from above shows the clip locations. What it doesn’t show are clips between the back panel and the side panel, maybe 5 of them each side.

The basic idea is use your little plastic pry tools and pop one clip at a time. You are pulling in towards you the whole time. The pry tools make this a snap.

I stuck one pry bar in. Slid the other next to it and popped one clip at a time, working my way across the top prying and popping the clips out. Then down one side. Across the bottom, and then Up the other side. Then it pulls right out. You may have to pull little black clips from the screws and stick them back in the panel.

This can be done with both seats in even.
