Picked my kids up today after work because I got off earlier than normal, which I almost never get to do. Usually my wife is the one picking them up after work due to time. Anyways, they decided today was a great day to chip seal the road our baby sitter lives on, which is basically laying hot tar and dumping stones on top. As soon as I turned onto her road, rocks started shooting out everywhere from underneath my truck. Only went maybe 25mph both ways.

I got home and checked out the rear wheel fenders and sure enough they’re covered in marks, a couple have paint completely missing. I just hand washed it a couple days ago and I didn’t have a single spot anywhere. I’ve only had my truck since July 1st, with 2177 miles put on it already. It’s obviously not a huge problem or anything, it just kind of makes me irritated looking at it.

My two questions:
1. Does anybody have a good fix for this? Should I pick up a Mopar paint pen with the matching color and if so how do I go about using it correctly? I bought a AcDelco one for my old truck that was suppose to be the same and it wasn’t even close. It seems pretty straight forward, not sure how I could of done anything wrong.
2. The protective paint tape that’s color matched, that conveniently missed catching the two spots with missing paint that rocks hit, is that something I can buy online?

Pick up some used OEM takeoffs from a sport or lower model that have the regular road tread. The fenders will cover them completely and they won't pick up as many rocks and road debris.

most of that looks like it hit the paint protection film, which is clear by the way. Once the film gets beat up pretty bad, you can remove the film and replace it with a new strip.

Rokblokz. Best thing you can do to really stop it.
Love my Rokblokz! Best investment yet to help keep my Jeep looking new!

As for correcting the rock chips, you can get a touch up pen to fill in some of the holes. I personally haven’t used them yet but know friends who have and you can’t see tell there were rock chips until you look at it upclose.

Same thing happened to mine on a trip to Snowshoe right after they cindered all the roads leading up the mountain. My rear fenders look like they were hit with #7 birdshot. Same with the rear door hinges. To say I was irritated is an understatement.

I like the concept of the Rokblokz, but they look like shit. Especially for what they want for them.

I think the WeatherTech's look better.

I finally figured with mine I will just forget about it and let the fender chip to hell and then one day just replace them with some high plastic ones. At least that is the upside to a Jeep that you dont easily do with regular cars!!!! Lego car!!!! :)

My wife’s JL has the black texture fenders and hardtop on her sting gray color and it goes really well together. I’m envious of hers because even though the fenders have so many jagged bumps and marks from hundreds of rocks where if you rub a microfiber towel over it, it literally eats it, at least it still looks the same as it ever has.

Another recommendation for Rokblokz. My JT picked up several dings to the back fenders before putting mine on but the fenders are black so I didn’t mind all that much. It was when the hinge paint started showing rock chips that the flaps when on. Mopar paint pen has covered up the chips on the hinges well

Another recommendation for RokBlokz. I spend a lot of time on graveled roads here in the Grand Canyon vicinity, and the RokBlokz work well to protect fenders and hinges. They are also on an adjustable bracket so you can move them further out for more coverage if you put wider wheels/tires on, and fairly easy to take off if you are crawling and need the additional clearance.

I guess it was only a matter of time no matter what, it just sucks having it happen so soon. My old truck had hundreds but it was my own fault, I ran a -44 offset 20 by 12.5 wheel which basically made the front and rear splash guards completely useless. I do personally like the look of the Rokblokz but my wife hates them. Early birthday present for myself possibly. ?

something else that can help if you don’t want to go with the Rokblokz is to find some wider side steps. I currently have the mopar performance side rails… they help with keeping stuff kicked up on the sides. Eventually I’ll get Rockslider engineering steps as they are much wider and so my wife will be able to step in a lot easier.
