My spotter walked over a few feet of the area and said it looked ok. It was not.

Pulled this Taco off a rock. He was with 2-3 jeeps all with winches and high lifts - no one knew how to use their equipment to unstick him. They had us blocked. We were able to work our way around and winch him loose.

No, they have done literally 0 infrastructure upgrades on the mountain since, well it feels since I’ve been alive. No lane expansions, no parking lots, nothing. An exploding population and people who don’t know how to drive in these conditions always leads to a crap show every weekend in winter.
I have been here since 1975 except when I was in the Air Force. There have been very few infrastructure upgrades. I know people who go up there from other states and can't drive in it.

It is probably a good thing no one touched it. You can always make things worse.

I’ve watched a lot of Matt’s Off Road Recovery to make me think I’m better than I am, but I’ve learned by breaking things that some times it is better for someone with real experience to come help and learn from them before making rash decisions.

Good point. They were nervous and clearly in over their heads. Hopefully they have spent some time learning to use their equipment!

Older pics of the rig when it was a lot less capable, on my first trip to Windrock.

High centered on the big pool area of Panther Rock trail 51. I'm sure a lot of people know the exact spot.

Let's just say being stuck for over an hour in a muddy pool made getting a winch a lot more justified down the road. All tires were off the ground and the water is actually knee deep. On the approach I was thinking more of the larger pool rather then the smaller one my back wheels dropped into. Didn't account for that. High centered. Stacked rocks in the water and tried Maxtrax for the rear and still didn't help. Notice in the second pic my shoes to the right. Brought knee high fireman boots and ended up filling those up quickly treking around in the muddy water besides the mosquitoes killing me.

My company backed out on the trip last minute and I wasn't gonna pass on my first Windrock trip so did it alone. Luckily it's a heavily traveled trail and some sxs came and winched me shortly over an hour later.

But I found that I couldn't park there apparently.

Haha!! Keep em comin'!!!

You guys are making me feel a lot better about spending the 3 grand for a real front bumper (warn) and warn winch plus another bundle on recovery gear. LOL. I've been in plenty of predicaments on 2 wheels, but 4 wheels is a whole nuther can of worms.

Looking forward (or maybe not) to putting the winch to good use. The thought of leaving the Gladiator in the back country and walking out was keeping me up at night before getting the winch situation dialed. (The really great thing is that IMO the JTRubicon is WAY more capable than I ever expected. Loving it so far!!)

When I get into a place I'm not supposed to park, I'll make sure to get pics - and hopefully it will be a one hour parking only spot. :)

funny you say that. I Got into matt, which led to watching his buddies as well, and now every time i see a picture of someone stuck, its like Im a recovery expert and a mathematician. Take to winch,/snatch block and attach there, divide by 25 degrees, use 5k lbs of force, and then multiply by Pi. Cant you see the geometry? There, you're saved. - Ive never done a recovery but i have been recovered.
