How do you get software version info on a 5" uconnect 3 system?

I have the notoriously bad 5" uconnect 3 in my 2020 gladiator sport. I had a friend with similar issues suggest that I need a software update, but when I visit the website and enter my vin, it tells me there are no updates available. I've been through probably hundreds of forum posts reading complaints from other people with similar issues, but when I search for how to check the version currently on my system, all of the suggestions for accessing a dealer or engineering menu reference pressing combinations of buttons that my system doesn't have. There is no wifi option in the standard settings menu, and no "vehicle information" screen. Am I just being dumb and overlooking something? I find it hard to believe there are no updates available on a system that is 5 years old and (as far as I can tell) has never been updated.

On my 4th JT and that Uconnect website never once showed that I had a update needed that I could download and said I was up to date despite numerous TSB's saying otherwise.

Thanks, Thunderspud. That's actually the website where I checked it before, and it said there were no updates. That may in fact be the case, but I find it hard to believe. I was reading on a wrangler forum where people were discussing multiple different versions for this radio.

Wow, Hootbro! I gotta ask... What happened to the first 3?
Nothing wrong with them. I played the covid market game on two of them and kited into the next ones with almost no financial impact.

Back to your original problem, I do not think there is any loose update files in the wild I would trust and you may have to resign having the dealer check and do any updates but of course that will be on your dime.

FWIW, I may or may not have a 7" UConnect sitting in a box that I have absolutely no use for. Completely possible that it could find it's way to you for shipping costs.

That said, you would then have to deal with all the extra bits and sensors needed for HVAC controls, Volume/Tuning, etc........ so it's probably not worth the hassle.

@Thunderspud, I sent you a DM. Out of curiosity, what did you replace your 7" system with?
In this truck I went with the Stinger Horizon 10. For the money, I couldn't convince myself to go 8.4 UConnect when the Stinger stuff existed. Had the 8.4 in the previous trucks but the Stinger stuff offers more features and, in my opinion, looks better as well. And that's from someone who prefers OEM in just about all things, aesthetically speaking

I'm happy to send you that 7" unit. Lemme get back to the shop and track it down.

I never found a way to check which software version is installed other than loading the upgrade file from a thumb drive and starting the process. It will report the current version when it starts.

The last upgrade I'm aware of corrected the clock which would loose 4 seconds per day before the upgrade. If your clock doesn't loose time, you may be up to date.

Oh, my clock definitely loses time. I researched that a while ago and never found a solution. That's interesting to know.

That 7.0 radio will not be plug and play into a new vehicle without the 4 digit security code. They are usually VIN locked to the vehicle they were previously installed in.

Easiest way for about $10 is find a Ebay seller offering the service and it is usually a dealership tech running a side hustle getting the code. They will usually want a picture of the back data label for the information.

Also, when you first install it, will probably have limited function and you may need to do a cold reboot which is engine off, doors locked and left for a few hours with overnight being best. It will then cold boot and check the other modules on the CAN to figure your configuration and populate the head unit as such.
